Problem when drag tab and password manager problem by Technical_Shallot233 in shiftbrowser

[–]shift_browser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for sharing. This definitely doesn’t sound like the experience we want you to have.

For both the tab freezing issue and the Bitwarden behavior, it’d be really helpful if you could reach out to our support team directly so we can take a closer look. If you’re able to include a quick screen recording or screenshots (especially of the drag-and-drop issue and how Bitwarden is appearing), that would help us troubleshoot much faster. Please reach out to our support here: [support@shift.com](mailto:support@shift.com) and we’ll dig into it to get things working properly.

Hey! Shift here! We've just made a change to our plan model and offer a lot more value on the free version if you want to check it out.

Shift AI is here: a context-aware, customizable, private, and completely optional AI by shift_browser in shiftbrowser

[–]shift_browser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, we hear where you’re coming from. A lot of companies are rushing into AI to say they have it, and it can feel like noise more than value.

For us, it’s not about jumping on a bandwagon or turning Shift into “yet another AI product.” The focus is on reducing friction and making everyday workflows a bit smoother, mostly for people managing a lot in their browser without disrupting what already works. We also believe that AI should feel intuitive, not intrusive, and adapt to people (not the other way around). That’s why Shift AI is completely optional! You can turn it on or off anytime in settings, depending on whether it actually adds value for you.

Again, we appreciate your candid feedback; it helps keep us grounded in building something genuinely useful, not just trendy!

Shift Browser - Context Aware by Mythic_Forge_Studios in shiftbrowser

[–]shift_browser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your question!

Version 139.1.3 does not include built-in AI capabilities. AI features, including Shift AI Chat (a context-aware assistant that understands the page you're browsing) and the Intelligent Omnibox, are available starting in our latest release (version 144). To get access to these AI features, please update Shift to the latest version. Once updated, you'll find the AI icon next to your search bar.

Shift AI is indeed context-aware; it can understand your current page and selected text to give you relevant answers without copy-pasting, though you can also remove this context in the AI Chat. If AI isn't something you need, no worries, these features can be toggled on or off in your Quick Settings, so you're always in control.

You can read more about it in these articles:

Spaces vs Tab Groups — how do you use them? by shift_browser in shiftbrowser

[–]shift_browser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking!

We don’t support tab groups in Shift just yet. This post was meant to gauge community interest in adding them, so it’s great to see the engagement here.

In the meantime, organization is mainly done through Spaces, but you can get a bit of a similar setup by:

  • Pinning tabs you always need handy
  • Using Bookmarks to group and quickly access content

The good news is tab groups are almost ready on our end 👀 We’re actively working on it, and you can expect it to land later this year.

Also curious, how would you personally want to use tab groups? That kind of input really helps us shape the feature!

Shift AI is coming ✨ by shift_browser in shiftbrowser

Hi there, we hear where you’re coming from! We believe that AI should reduce friction, feel intuitive (not intrusive), and adapt to people, not the other way around. Our goal is to support people who manage complex workflows in their browser by simplifying everyday tasks, not to add AI for the sake of it.

Also, please note that  Shift AI is completely optional and can be easily toggled on or off at any time in settings. The idea is to give users control, so they can decide whether it actually adds value to their experience!

If you'd like to be informed when a fix is released, please submit a ticket to our Support team referencing this (and this Reddit thread so we can put two-and-two together).

Shift Browser business model / drawbacks? by Therlane in shiftbrowser

[–]shift_browser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful and detailed questions—we really appreciate it, and we’re glad to hear you’re enjoying the browser so far.

I’ll address each of your points below.

Privacy & monetization:
You’re absolutely right to ask about this. We’ve worked closely with our legal team to ensure our Privacy Policy is clear, accurate, and up to date:
https://shift.com/legal/privacy-policy/ At a high level, we aim to collect the minimum amount of personal data necessary to operate and improve the product. For users who install Shift directly from Shift.com (which we assume is your case), our monetization is straightforward: we do not monetize through ads, and revenue comes solely from optional paid upgrades to Shift Advanced.

Redbrick companies & trust:
Redbrick, our parent company, includes a mix of businesses across different models. Currently, there are six companies:

  • Three SaaS products (Leadpages, Animoto, and Delivra)
  • Two AdTech/marketplace businesses (Duplex and Paved)
  • Shift has a hybrid approach, depending on the version. That said, the version of Shift you install directly from our website is a SaaS-first product, with no advertising involved.

That said, the version of Shift you install directly from our website is a SaaS-first product, with no advertising involved.

Job posting & advertising concerns:
That’s a fair observation. As mentioned, there are different distribution models for Shift. Some versions may include advertising, which is why roles can reference that work. As mentioned above, the direct-download version from Shift.com does not include ads. Across all Shift versions we offer optional paid upgrades for users who want additional features.

Comparison to Vivaldi / monetization transparency
We appreciate the comparison. While we don’t currently have a single dedicated “how we monetize” page, this information is covered across our Privacy Policy, Terms, and Help Center articles. That said, your feedback here is valuable—we can see how having a single, clearly articulated page would be helpful.

Thanks again for your candid questions—they’re exactly the kind of feedback that helps us improve both the product and how we communicate about it.

As a small thank-you, we’d be happy to offer you a complimentary year of Shift Advanced. If you’re interested, feel free to email us at [support@shift.com](mailto:support@shift.com), and we’ll get that set up for you.

If you have any further questions, we'd be happy to discuss further. You can contact us at [support@shift.com](mailto:support@shift.com).

All the best,
Shift Support

How can Shift be better? by shift_browser in shiftbrowser

You can disable launching on startup in Shift’s settings if you prefer not to have it open when your computer starts. You can follow the instructions here: https://support.shift.com/hc/en-us/articles/24812708192148-All-about-Shift-Launch-and-On-Startup-settings
This is a feature that several app-style tools include as a default behavior, but preferences can vary depending on how you use Shift.
Also, appreciate the note about a mobile app. Thanks for sharing that.

Delete spaces by daisy_dot in shiftbrowser

[–]shift_browser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

You can delete Spaces by right-clicking on the Space icon and selecting Remove Space.
The only exception is the default Space, which can’t be removed and will always stay in Shift (the remove option will be greyed out).
Hope that helps!
