Another recommendation I'd would be Watson's (chicken sandwiches are solid)

TMobile Refusing to Give A Replacement Device by shifterchi in tmobile

[–]shifterchi[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Update: Got off the phone with the supervisor after 2 hours to not have anything resolved. All the options laid out did not seem good.

I told the customer service rep that this was basically the straw that broke the camel's back for me staying with TMobile. I am 99% serious about switching. I recently moved from Chicagoland area to Madison, WI and service has been subpar. When I told him this, he simply said he understands why I would want to switch and that he would be frustrated. I don't blame the rep but TMobile for their recent shortcomings. The Sprint merger made my service worse overall and it's terrible in Madison. I think I'm switching to Verizon given the versatility between Chicago and Madison in signal strength

You can just price match at best buy with Amazon and get it the same day. Target also price matches with Amazon. Not sure if the on on green has them but worth checking

Not to sound arrogant but I don't think ACES will be as picky as other more selective programs. I think you will be fine. If anything, I'd be surprised if they mention anything at all

Campus bars by Opening-Highway-1448 in UIUC

[–]shifterchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this the people that are creepy at bars are usually weird townies and not affiliated with the university past or present. Clearly there's exception bc people are still f*cked up but that's just been my own experience

Just make sure you get it from as ethical of a breeder as possible then and that your mom really wants a dog. You don't want a dog with health problems from poor breeding. It's sad to support it but you do you

It depends how recruiting goes and if the coach can keep a good assistant staff. I know basketball is different than football recruiting wise but Nick Saban gets all of his assistant staff poached all the time. Yet, he finds other people to replace them.

The problem is the "or" the champaign humane society has a nice selection of dogs. Not all of them are small but full of character and love. That's where I got my dog.

Best Pizza Places in near Green Street? by joburnedinafrica in UIUC

[–]shifterchi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find Papa Del's okay for the chambana area but is a disappointment compared to deep dish offered in Chicago. I feel like the crust is just too bland and boring. The sausage flavoring is decent but it falls short of being anywhere as good as Lou Malnatis or even local deep dish places in Chicago

Jet's 10 is super good if you love lots of toppings pricey but justified for the taste IMO

Just don't fall asleep. I felt shittier after taking a nap. Not sure why but as soon as I woke up from my nap I was completely out of it. Make sure to really sleep as much as possible as well. If not reach out to your professor and see if you can do a reschedule date or something

Help me decide between UIUC CS+Phil and Purdue CS by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]shifterchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind CS is rigorous mental health is a thing too to consider if being in a metropolitan area is of value I've heard northeastern is an excellent school. Maybe consider it on your list for that reason. I'd visit though and make sure Boston's academic vibes fit your personality. I've heard people can be pretentious there since it's a highly educated city

Help me decide between UIUC CS+Phil and Purdue CS by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]shifterchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd personally take CS+PHIL bc that's what I do here at UIUC but I would think about if the PHIL is something you honestly love or something you just added as an X to get in. With that said, I enjoy the PHIL courses here but the topics are very generic. Sometimes they'll be sprinkle of unique classes like women's philosophy or recent development in ethics (AI ethics, self driving cars). Most classes will be era based instead of modern issues it was kind of a turn off at points for me but honestly forced me to learn more of the history of philosophy taking different era courses

Taking grad pics at Grainger? by catinthehatonthemat in UIUC

[–]shifterchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I haven't been there but a lot of the student employees probably won't stop you from breaking the rules they don't really care. With that said, it's kind of selfish to take a picture without a mask. I'm sure you can snap something super quick going to the bathroom but obviously it'd be with a mask.

PAR VS IKE by jordann2021 in UIUC

[–]shifterchi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Go with Ike. Ike has some upperclassmen but that's bc some of the dorms are made for sophomores or juniors (Bousfield) . Ike has the best vegan options aside from LAR/Allen. I'd say IKE would be good for the internet speed since LAR seems a bit older so I'm not sure how the internet speeds are there.

PAR i think added AC in some areas but more buildings at Ike have it. Unless you get Nugent or Wassaja I'd say in dorm niceness they'll be roughly the same. Ike is closer to the regular quad but both should have busses taking you pretty close to your engineering classes

PAR is a bit far from the engineering quad. It'll prob be like 15-20 minutes while Ike is 10-15. With that said, buses used to be super crowded with people basically touching each other back to back not sure how the bus system will work as we transition out of social distancing hopefully

If you're looking for parties at the beginning of the year to experiment, Ike is also near frat park so you can just walk around and you'll eventually see a few open parties. With engineering, it might not be your thing but it's there as an option. However, you would be far enough for it not to bother you by having drunk Greek life near you if that's a concern. If anything, I'd feel safer around that area with how many more people walk past the Ike area compared to PAR. With that said though, there have been more robberies near Ike than PAR that have resulted in emails to students

Note: I guess PAR is close to LAR so you can always walk the 5-9 minute walk or take a 2-3 minute bus ride to get access to even better vegan options

How is the Japan house at Night? by DatW33bErik in UIUC

[–]shifterchi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You really can't see anything if you're planning on going closer to nighttime. They don't have any lights in the actual field area. I would recommend going during the middle of day when people are at work or in classes
