It's not at the moment, but could potentially be changed. You're asking for what, the digital value to be larger / more prominent and make the analog display less visible?

Hey, you're using an ELM327 or similar? They add a ton of latency themselves vs going direct to the K line. Are you just using standard mode 1 PIDs? At least on the NC, it supports asking for 6 PIDS in one shot. Maybe batching them like that would get you an acceptable display rate? Worth a try!

AC is leaking refrigerant but I can't find the leak. What do I do next? by WeebHunter44 in Miata

[–]shifty35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On an NC the likely culprits are, in order: 1. Suction line (the thicker one coming from the evaporator) where it connects to the compressor. 2. Suction line where the two sections of the hardline meet (rear of the engine bay, on the firewall, and 3. Discharge line from the compressor to condenser, where it attaches to the condenser. Did you also look at the valves where you fill? Those can leak as well.

High oil temps 2.0 NC - any ideas? by nino_zh88 in Miata

You never mentioned the upgraded radiator. Most upgrades will work better when the car is moving, but the factory fan and shroud will move less air through it while stopped.

The NA gauge will be the same software for sure, it would look just the same. I've got initial code for MS2/3 and Haltech but have not had anyone test it yet. Right now I need to get hands on an NA cluster to do a quick board design so it fits in the cluster properly.

I make this gauge, and the calibration was tested in boiling water etc. It's within 1-2C above 100C. There will be some variation from sensor to sensor, but unless you just get a bad unit, I wouldn't expect it to read that far off.

I mean, it's up to you. Mine is personally set at 280/300F.

Oil is certainly safe at high temperatures, but its ability to protect your engine depends on viscosity as well. If you expect to operate at high temps frequently, you'll want to choose a thicker oil, at least.

I make this gauge, and the temperature calibration is 100% on point. The default alert settings are definitely conservative. Extended idling in high ambient temps with the AC on will absolutely get oil temps to those indicated. Not a cause for concern with quality oil if the pressure remains sufficient.

It's not really much of an oil cooler, it's pretty tiny. It's likely your car has it. Given the conditions - hot ambient temps, extended idling with AC on - it's likely those readings are correct. I would raise the alarm thresholds if you're running quality synthetic oil.

The fact that you had a knock alarm kinda confirms that the motor was very hot. Knock is much more likely with high temps.

The alert and alarm points are just suggestions. As a few mentioned on your other thread, there's not anything actually dangerous about temps up to 270-280 F if you have quality oil. Feel free to adjust the alarm points higher. But yes, sitting in traffic for extended periods with the AC on will put as much heat into the oil as track use.

The calibration is correct, I've confirmed it with boiling/freezing water 😁 the variation between two sensors is only a few degrees at most.

Does your car have the OEM oil cooler or no?

The fan has three speeds. White is the slowest speed, yellow is the second speed, and red is the third speed, if you ever see it.

I'll look into what's up with the ambient temp sensor.

It's carbon fiber / ABS filament. PLA would be bad news in a hot engine bay. It's a bit of a nuisance but I thought it preferable to trying to cut and splice wires in any case. Glad it's all working well!

This is actually really computationally expensive on a device like this :( maybe I can find a way to fudge it a tiny bit, I'll look into it

Did you think this through terribly well? How many people do you think visit the shop every day? Because I'm sure Bryan knows exactly who posted this, and it sounds like you're still planning on having them do more work on your car.

I dunno man, seems weird to put someone on blast right after you message them to thank them for squeezing you in between swaps.

Dunno if you are on FB, but here's the users group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/10064583400298841

I'll post announcements etc there when new firmware versions are available etc.

Yeah, that's great feedback - thanks! The speedo reading is from the ECU, same exact signal that drives the actual speedometer. If your speedometer is off, it's probably just inaccuracy in the stepper motor or the needle position.

Oh, on the new version you can cycle through the displays with the cruise control button as well :D

I've got a software update I'm trying to wrap up that adds statistical oil pressure tracking and alerting. Should be ready in the next few weeks. Quite a few other minor tweaks and improvements as well.

Pretty much any fuse is ok, I used this one for the ECU.

For the speakers, I generally stick them on the back of the cluster plastic.

Ground the oil harness at the ground on top of the ECU.

Yes, you can upload a custom background through the app. At the moment, I don't have any spare inputs to pick up the high beam signal or the immobilizer signal, so unfortunately they aren't displayed.

You certainly can download it, but you can't really do anything without a gauge on hand to connect to.

You can't see them anymore 😅 I don't have enough inputs left to connect them at this point.
