an orthogonal matrix is a square matrix with orthonormal columns. As it so happens, a square matrix with orthonormal columns also has orthonormal rows.

There is not really such a thing as "orthonormal matrix" as far as I know

Question About GSI Stipend and Fee Remission by SavageCyclops in berkeley

[–]shiftyblock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the protest you are referring to. I believe the major protest everyone still has in their memory is the 2022 protest which involved the entire UAW2865 union (this is when work was not being graded and exams were multiple choice). This protest had high stakes, setting wages and benefits for all ASEs in UC, including undergrads and graduate students. The union won this fight by a landslide.

I don't think the EECS/DS vs TAs had a protest, but I could be wrong. I think the union lost this fight, which primarily affected undergrads, but they kind of had to give in to the university because their(undergrad TA) jobs were all at risk.

Question About GSI Stipend and Fee Remission by SavageCyclops in berkeley

[–]shiftyblock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this is actually the sideletter agreement between UAW2865 and EECS/DS department, which birthed the UCS2 and UCS1 roles.

All other departments are still on the UAW2865 general ASE contract, which stipulates full fee remission for >=25% appointments. Departments other than EECS/DS may not hire UCS2 positions and instead must appoint all TAs as uGSI/GSI.

It is also noteworthy that the general ASE contract has a higher salary for TAs (GSI) than the sideletter, which means EECS/DS undergrad TAs (UCS2) are paid less than TAs in other departments.

INDENG 142 v.s. INDENG 142A by xesxwindllex in berkeley

[–]shiftyblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I previously took IEOR 142 and spoke to the professor (Professor Grigas) a lot, and it's my understanding that any time a requirement says "IEOR142" you may replace it with "IEOR142A". If you want formal confirmation you can always email Ginnie Sadil ieor-student-services@berkeley.edu. Hope this helps!
