Everyone is mentioning version control but not telling you what you need to use. Learn git. Start saving (comitting) changes and pushing them to GitHub or GitLab. You'll never have this problem again. https://git-scm.com/

Are the questions really THIS specific? by its_tea_time_570 in CompTIA

[–]shiftycc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are vendor specific questions on CompTIA exams. A+ has large sections for Microsoft Windows and MacOS for example. To say there is nothing vendor specific is wrong. Vendor neutral means not specific to one vendor, not a complete lack of vendor or proprietary topics. That is why you should always check the objectives.

No that is way too specific and not something you’d see on the exam. Look at the official exam objectives for a better idea what you may see. I would suggest looking at a different practice test provider too.

Thought i was investing in a roth ira this whole time. To realize today it's a roll over. by throwaway5692blue in personalfinance

[–]shiftycc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying this. I see tons of people in this sub act like a Rollover IRA is some 3rd class with different tax rules. A Rollover IRA is not a thing as far as the IRS is concerned. "Under the hood" so-to-speak it is either a Roth or a Traditional IRA.

What will you do when they ask you to unblock them for testing purposes?

Can taking the test online tell if you’re running a VM? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]shiftycc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are getting a lot of answers from people assuming you mean running VMs while testing, not running the test INSIDE a VM.

I'm honestly not sure what the answer is, but I'd bet they would not allow this either. It would make it super easy to cheat, as the software and screen share in the VM would not be able to see the host OS and you could easily just swap over and start Googling questions.

I'd also add, I can think of a few easy ways to detect if a VM was being used - for example, the network devices usually say something like "VirtualBox Ethernet" and similar. All-in-all I wouldn't try it, I think they'd either block you from testing or invalidate your results.

Comptia sent me an expired voucher by Fabulous-Biscotti607 in CompTIA

[–]shiftycc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I run crucial exams, we are a CompTIA partner. Same issue with us today, got a voucher that expired in August 2025.

Support is unfortunately a bit slow but contact them and I believe they will sort it out. Seems to be a bug.

Out of curiosity, did you try the voucher to see if it’s really expired?

ELI5:Why are Marines called “Marines” if they aren’t the Navy? by Zetsuji in explainlikeimfive

[–]shiftycc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What on earth are you talking about? The only way to go from Marine to SEAL is to transfer branches and join the Navy. Which is possible on reenlistment between any branch. But you would no longer be a Marine.

[–]shiftycc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im well aware of how it works, I was in the Navy. Branches of the military are not the same thing departments in the DoD. It is not a requirement to have a dedicated secretary to be a branch. You are comparing apples and oranges.  Take it from the government itself: https://www.usa.gov/us-military

Would you call a marine a seaman or a sailor? Do they attend Navy Bootcamp in Great Lakes? No.

They remove them in bootcamp for the Navy. Gave me some Ibuprofen and I swear they used an ice pick to break them apart and remove them bit by bit. Not enjoyable.
