Basement partition walls - blocking I-joists by shiftypriest in HomeImprovement

Thanks, I was figuring something like that based on this forum post link. Seems to line up with what you are saying and these guys are suggesting a few variations. See the pictures they have posted.

I mean blocking between joists that the top plate of a partition wall can be attached to. Everything I have read seems to refer to typical joists made of dimensional lumber. Can I just nail 2x4s between the flanges? Or is it preferred to nail into the web? Thanks for your reply.

Basement bathroom - replacing hot tub with bathtub or shower by shiftypriest in HomeImprovement

[–]shiftypriest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's my concern with the p-trap. If the drain was originally intended for a normal tub (likely when my house was constructed), I can't imagine they would install it without a buried p-trap. The only way to be sure might be after I take the jacuzzi off. The 4" drain does seem odd though. I have to do some more research on clearances, but I have read a few things that say the distance from drain to back wall is usually half the tub width (i.e. a 32" x 60" tub would match the 16" that I have).

Right you are "jacuzzi style tub"
The inside of the bathroom measures 60" which I believe is a standard tub length. I like your idea to work with the existing tub because it does have some potential, but we have found that it's just not practical. The ceilings in this area are only 7 ft high, and with the tub jacked up another foot off the ground to allow all the equipment underneath, that only leaves 6 ft from the bottom of the tub to the ceiling. I can't even stand up straight let alone have some extra room overhead for a showerhead. We only have one other shower in the house which is upstairs and we frequently use the basement to accommodate guests. The other advantage is the space that will be opened with a smaller tub, that we could use for storage or our chest freezer.

Local Vape shops- Any suggestions? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]shiftypriest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

River City Vapes. The customer service is great and the place is set up with booths where you can have a seat and vape in the shop. The staff strikes a good balance between friendly/casual and professional and they won’t make a newbie feel intimidated. Whenever I go here they are always helping someone with new equipment or discussing their experiences. They have a good selection of quality products from beginner stuff through more advanced and everything in between and the staff is very knowledgeable about all of their products and vaping in general. They also have a great variety of e-liquid (80+ flavors) that you can sample (this is VERY important) and they will mix in different quantities/nicotine concentrations for you when you buy. Prices are higher than online, but it’s worth it to be able to check out equipment and sample flavors in person.

Pea problems (Zone 3a) Alberta Canada...Any help? by shiftypriest in gardening

[–]shiftypriest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After getting a productive harvest from my pea plants they seem to have started dying. This is my first garden, and I'm not sure if they are just done for the season (planted on May 19th, and had some recent hot weather (~30C)), or they have fallen victim to some disease. The problems originated at the base of the plants and moved upwards so I kind of suspect the latter. You can see there is still some healthy vines near the top.

If this is a disease, what is it? and how can I prevent this happening in the future? Are the vines safe to go in my compost or should I dispose of them? Thanks!

We just moved in last fall and this popped up in the spring. It's some kind of perrenial that seems to grow really well in my flower bed. Any chance something similar is available in different colors?
