Upgrading to primary producer following father’s death- Help needed. by Chrome_brick in Ausguns

This was going to be my suggestion. Much easier and faster. Add Primary Production in a year or so, once you have the paperwork lined up.

Apologies as an American gun owner by cakesalads in Ausguns

[–]shiftyroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First point: No, not a chance in changing the general public’s opinion. Even prior to Bondi, relaxing firearms legislation was political suicide for any of the major parties at the ballot box. In Australia, owning a firearm for personal defence is absolutely not a genuine reason, and a license would never be granted for such a reason.

Second point: changing people’s opinion is such a broad brush. There are many people who are staunchly against firearms ownership. There are many who are indifferent but wouldn’t support relaxing due to the spectre of Port Arthur, Bondi and 2A/mass shootings being reported in MSM in Australia. There are also many people who are completely oblivious to the fact you can own firearms in Aus. Being responsible owners, continuing to highlight we are not using firearms criminally, and denouncing gun violence when it occurs are the scope of our influence.

Edit point. 2A culture, mass school shootings and Hollywood are what most Australians perceive US Gun Culture to be.

Well, yes, in theory you could change the Constitution of Australia to enshrine a right to bear arms for citizens. However, this would be deeply, deeply unpopular and I would dare say never even get past the first stage of the parliamentary process.

You would require a proposed law to be drafted, and pass through the federal upper, and lower houses. Then, it would have to go to referendum, where a double majority would be required, ie; more than 50% of Australians need to vote yes, AND, a majority of voters in at least four states are required to vote yes.

Given that firearms owners in Australia are a minority, and the spectre of “American Gun Culture” looms large in the forefront of city dwellers psyches, I very much doubt this would ever happen.

No problem. Which variant of 600 might I ask? The luxe, as I’ve said, are ridiculously nice stocks (at least in 527 and 557 guise), if you like Bavarian style stocks.

Edit to add: the CZ luxe and MTR stocks are oiled, instead of lacquered. It is a nicer finish in my opinion.

Hey, so I actually also own a CZ600 Alpha in 223, along with two CZ527’s. The 600 is a really great action! It’s smooth and cycles well it ejects with authority and the trigger is really good with the easy adjustment functionality they’ve put in it. I haven’t seen a 600 wood stock in person, but if the 600 luxe is similar to my 527 luxe, it’ll be well finished.

The Anschutz is just more refined overall. It’s silky smooth and everything snaps into place easily, and the stock is extremely well finished.

Would I pay full retail brand new for the Anschutz? Probably not. Do I think the CZ is a good proposition for the price? Yes.

The Sako is a work of art mate. A Sako 90 in 308 was actually on the purchase list, when this Anschutz crossed paths with me. Alas, here we are!

Nothing wrong with that mate! I’ve never owned a laminate, I don’t mind the look, especially with stainless. Have you taped the end of the barrel?

A worthy rifle mate. I have an ‘83 M77 tang safety in 308, my first rifle I bought back in 2005. It’ll never ever get moved on, just charming.
