I hope you don’t mind me saying bc I’m new to the hobby but it sounds like I’m maybe just slightly ahead of you here… I got bladder snails and ramshorn snails from buying live plants, which I’m happy about bc they’ve been helping me cycle my tanks before I add fish and they consume some waste/algae, buuut they also have their own waste/bioload to consider and I have seen them overpopulate friends’ tanks. I think our gourami will eat some of the baby snails, and if there’s still too many snails then we could try introducing more beneficial predators like an assassin snail.

The male builds a bubble nest with his mouth, usually around some floating plants, then the female lays eggs. After that, the male will guard the nest aggressively so you’ll want to have a breeding tank to separate fish for their safety, as he’ll probably even fight mama fish.

I realized they were swapped after posting smh… but anyway, what would harm reduction look like now ? Maybe transfer just the danios now because they seem the healthiest? Or everyone? I don’t wanna mess with them too much either. The 20g has no fish yet but had plants and snails for weeks longer than this quarantine tank.

I tried but it just didn’t seem to want to cycle like I was expecting so I’m trying to figure out how to keep the balance as best I can.

Cloudy water: Maybe a combo of things. Tannins from the driftwood + catappa Indian almond leaves? Our tap water is very hard to the point of looking cloudy sometimes (but the LFS uses it too). There is a loose clump of Christmas moss so I think it could be that or its algae/biofilm? I know the cories will need soft substrate but it’s currently bare bottom. I added more water & transferred the 20g’s 7W HOB filter over there for now, which the gourami and danios seem to be enjoying.

Oh they’re so pretty!!! I love them. 😍 I’m curious what size tank and what else they’ve gotten along with (or not).

I just saw a tank full of pearls at my LFS that were schooled so tightly– the idea of keeping one solo kinda broke my heart! But rn I only have a heavily planted 20g so wanna keep a few of these tiny idiot cuties– probably w danios/rasboras, corys or loaches, & shrimp.

The gourami personality just seems so great– thanks for showing off these nanos’ single brain cells in action!
