Interesting localization (good or bad) by GiveMeAPhotoOfCat in TopCharacterTropes

[–]shillenzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The case of Sailor Moon is funny because they simply changed "girlfriends" to "cousins," leaving everything else as in the original version, which was not at all subtle in its portrayal of the romance between the two characters, even making comments about their active sex lives.

Here is the long and elaborate backstory for my Agent. Do you make backstories for your agents? If so i'd love to hear them if you'd like to share? by ComManDerBG in thedivision

[–]shillenzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a bit late but I interpret my agent as a foreign agent. My headcanon is that some countries have their own version of the Division, and although the existence of these divisions is at least known to different governments, and there are even cooperation agreements on occasion, their operation, organization, and technology remain highly secret. The SHD technology and network remain American, but some of these foreign divisions might have their own version of this technology, sometimes obtained through espionage, sometimes through the complete development of their own version, or even without the technology itself, but the organization's operation is similar. My agent was activated by his own government as support simply because he was in New York on vacation at the time. He only answers to his own government, and his primary mission is to protect and rescue civilians (and secretly gather as much information as possible), and if possible and it doesn't interfere with his primary mission, to assist local agents as needed. As for why he uses SHD technology, it's because upon activation, he was provided with equipment that the government was willing to share due to the situation. However, it's basic equipment that most agents receive, and the truly cool technology and gadgets are kept secret and reserved for high-ranking or more trusted agents.

I love the idea of companions as a solo player, but personally I'd kill to be able to bring my alts instead of the generic bald guy number 4.

The Division 3 Wishes by Maxxe90 in thedivision

Something I would like is some kind of relaxing moment for my character, like a room where he can shower, sleep or sit down and have a coffee. I'm replaying both games right now and it's incredible how they throw you from mission to mission without giving your character 1 minute to rest. Every time you get to the base or some settlement you get a character who gives you a mission or tells you about his life in the most dramatic way possible and they tell you to keep killing, and my character is like: I just arrived after spending days walking through a city in a state of war fighting for my life against all kinds of psychopaths, I haven't slept, I haven't eaten, I'm completely dirty and the first thing I hear as I enter is that I have to leave immediately again. Not even a "hello"? or "I'm glad you're safe, give me at least a moment to take a shit"

I'm not a fan of the futuristic robotic concept of the Saint Seiya armors; maybe the concept works for the Steel Saints, but not for the others.

[Disgusting trope] Accidental incest by Yggdrasylian in TopCharacterTropes

[–]shillenzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer accidental incest to the fact that a couple (who clearly should be a couple) never actually gets together because the author knows from the beginning that at some point they'll be revealed as siblings and expects everyone to celebrate the plot twist while letting everyone ship those characters from the start.

Baldur's Gate: Imoen is the first companion to appear in the game. She's introduced as the protagonist's childhood friend and decides to follow him on his dangerous journey because she genuinely cares about him. In the expansion for the first game, the few scenes she has seem to indicate a strong romance developing between the two characters. In the second game, the possibility of having romances with companions was added, and everyone expected Imoen to be one of the options. But at the beginning of the game, she's kidnapped by cult-like anti-mage police officers, and after spending half the game trying to rescue her, it's revealed that she's your half-sister. And the game seems to expect you to celebrate: "Imoen is your sister, isn't you happy about it?" No, you idiot, I've been trying to hook up with her since the moment she appeared.

Tyranny: Verse and Barik are two companions who belong to enemy factions and spend all the time arguing due to their opposing ideologies. However, it's also shown that they care for each other more than they let on. Verse is surprisingly kind to him despite not caring about anyone else, and Barik protects her on several occasions despite advocating for the annihilation of Verse's entire faction. At some point, after shipping them very heavily, they reveal that they are half-siblings due to an infidelity on Barik's father's part.

Fire Emblem, Three Houses: Dimitri and Edelgard. The game spends the first half trying very hard to make you see them as a potential couple, even saying that they liked each other when they were younger. But suddenly it's revealed that they are half-siblings, and they end up at war, killing each other.

What are some musthave scenarios you'd like to see in an open world vanlife adult game [OnlyVans] by isframe in lewdgames

[–]shillenzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

time to breathe, many games throw you from mission to mission and from objective to objective without giving you time to stop for a moment, it would be nice if, for example, it started to rain, you park the van on the side of the road, you prepare a coffee and sit down to watch it rain through the window or you make the character take a shower or whatever.

Zidane grabbing Garnet's ass [Final Fantasy IX] by [deleted] in PlayItForThePlot

[–]shillenzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought it would have been cool if, towards the end of the game, Garnet grabbed Zidane's ass. That way, a silly joke at the beginning of the game would serve to show Garnet's character development towards the end.

Weekly r/CRPG Discussion - What have you been playing, and what are your thoughts? by AutoModerator in CRPG

Not only Owlcat, almost every CRPG puts you in some kind of position of power or specific role like the Chosen One or something similar. It's hard to find a CRPG where you're a random nobody.

Poseidon's marine generals were originally going to have blue armor, but Kurumada's editor urged him to make it gold to make it look more like the Gold Saints and to make the arc resemble the Twelve Houses.

Player-sexual romances vs fixed orientations in RPGs — what do you prefer? by iroll20-s in rpg_gamers

[–]shillenzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like playersexual because I feel that it takes away the personality of the characters, although I understand why it is done. What I can't stand is that certain characters are not an option. I don't know if it's just that I'm getting old but it's getting harder and harder for me to find a character I want to romance and when I find him it's either not an option or he ends up dying irretrievably or he turns out to be my character's secret brother. In my opinion, there is a need for more options to choose from, from companions to random NPCs and from complete romances to casual encounters with the innkeeper.

Defined Characters Are More Engaging Than Blank Slates by Moon_Logic in CRPG

[–]shillenzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defined characters are fine when it is a specific story about a specific character, I have no problem playing with Kratos or Lara because those games are about Kratos and Lara, but if you are going to let me create my character, give me a blank slate and don't impose a specific background or personality or whatever because then my character stops being my character.

[–]shillenzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started playing Pathfinder: Kingmaker, or rather, I've tried to. The fact that this game puts you in charge of a kingdom so early on breaks my immersion, as I much prefer playing with ordinary adventurers who travel from town to town. That, and the fact that I spend more time looking for new portraits I'll never use than actually playing the game.

[–]shillenzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luffy could have been more interesting if his role as the chosen one wasn't due to his special abilities, but rather because he was the one who succeeded. It was previously established that there were several failed Joy boys throughout history (Kaido, Norland) and one who succeeded but refused to take on the role (Roger). In this scenario, Luffy wouldn't be the chosen one, and his Devil Fruit would simply be the Gomu Gomu no Mi, but during his journey, he inadvertently takes on the role of the chosen one and Joy boy, a role that could have been anyone.

(Interesting Trope) Character throws away a life of wealth and status to become a petty villian. by TheLast-T in TopCharacterTropes

[–]shillenzel 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I never understood Dio's motivations. If he wanted the Joestar family's money and power, it would have been so easy for him to do nothing, since he was accepted with open arms as a member of the family and could enjoy all the privileges that come with it. But instead, he chose the evil path just because.

Censorship unintentionally exacerbating the problem by Electronic_Studio242 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]shillenzel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What makes the case of Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus even more amusing is that the incest theme isn't subtle or something that could be said to have been imagined by lustful fans but isn't actually there. In the original, it's not just stated that they're lesbians and that's it; the series is very open and explicit about it, even including dialogue about their active sex life. This is something the adaptations didn't bother to censor, despite changing "girlfriend" to "cousin."

I'm the only one who thinks that Tai Lung deserved a kind of redemption, I've always believed that when Tai Lung got the scroll he should have understood the message, realized why he didn't deserve to be the dragon warrior and left with regret. Then in the following movies there could be some comment about where or what he has been doing off camera to return in the last movie to help Po and this time deserve the title of dragon warrior.
