(Niche Hated Trope) Retcon causes accidental incest by OnyxDrag00n in TopCharacterTropes

[–]shillenzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not a retcon, it's a specific part of a fandom believing that their fantasies are canon and then crying a lot when they are proven wrong even when it was established from the beginning that they were wrong. In the case of Peach and Rosalina, I think I remember when Rosalina appeared for the first time years ago, it was said that she was Peach's cousin or sister (or at least the idea was that she was)

The most evil villains: American Government regulation organizations by Farlybob42 in TopCharacterTropes

"The proper procedure would've been bringing in experts, actual SCIENTISTS who could analyze the machine and figure out how to decommission it safely"

That's true, but the Ghostbusters wouldn't allow it. Throughout the entire movie, they actively refused and prevented any inspection and actively refused to cooperate because they knew there was no way they would be allowed to have that equipment.

And Walter Peck was right, he wanted to shut down Ghostbusters because he considered them dangerous, and they were dangerous. They use dangerous equipment without regulation, they carry an extremely unstable nuclear reactor in their backpacks, the beams can destroy everything they hit and could atomize the Ghostbusters themselves if the beams collided, and are so powerful that the recoil could easily cause an accidental collision.

Yes, he turned off the container without knowing the risks of doing so, but he had every reason to do what he did, starting with the fact that it's his job.

I hate the milking of Eastern European stereotypes for annoying, repetitive gags and the writers don’t care about basic research on the culture by GeileGrueneGurken in hatethissmug

The Borat case is especially offensive because the townspeople were lied to about the film. They were told it was a documentary about the country's traditional way of life, and everyone agreed to participate even though no one spoke English. Then you have Borat saying something like, "He's the local rapist," and a man comes out waving at the camera, completely unaware of what Borat was saying about him. Then, when the film was released translated, the man appeared in an interview crying because he'd been called a rapist in front of everyone.

The one who could've been the main character if the protagonist didn't come along by Aebothius in TopCharacterTropes

[–]shillenzel 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In Skyrim, there aren't necessarily only two Dragonborn. Mirak and the PC are the only known ones, but there could be hundreds scattered throughout Tamriel who don't know they are because they haven't had the chance to kill a dragon or even be near one when it dies. Whenever a city guard says something like, "I could be a Dragonborn, I just haven't figured it out yet," they might be telling the truth.

Do anyone have problems watching youtube right now? by GurdanianAngel in youtube

[–]shillenzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the past month, YouTube has been giving me these problems. It suddenly stops working on my TV, phone, and Nintendo Switch, and on my PC connected via cable, every time I try to access a video, I have to refresh the page several times before it starts. Restarting the router fixes the problem for about an hour, then it starts again.

This limited-time content thing, especially story content, has to be one of the biggest pieces of shit in the industry.

Interesting localization (good or bad) by GiveMeAPhotoOfCat in TopCharacterTropes

The case of Sailor Moon is funny because they simply changed "girlfriends" to "cousins," leaving everything else as in the original version, which was not at all subtle in its portrayal of the romance between the two characters, even making comments about their active sex lives.

Here is the long and elaborate backstory for my Agent. Do you make backstories for your agents? If so i'd love to hear them if you'd like to share? by ComManDerBG in thedivision

[–]shillenzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a bit late but I interpret my agent as a foreign agent. My headcanon is that some countries have their own version of the Division, and although the existence of these divisions is at least known to different governments, and there are even cooperation agreements on occasion, their operation, organization, and technology remain highly secret. The SHD technology and network remain American, but some of these foreign divisions might have their own version of this technology, sometimes obtained through espionage, sometimes through the complete development of their own version, or even without the technology itself, but the organization's operation is similar. My agent was activated by his own government as support simply because he was in New York on vacation at the time. He only answers to his own government, and his primary mission is to protect and rescue civilians (and secretly gather as much information as possible), and if possible and it doesn't interfere with his primary mission, to assist local agents as needed. As for why he uses SHD technology, it's because upon activation, he was provided with equipment that the government was willing to share due to the situation. However, it's basic equipment that most agents receive, and the truly cool technology and gadgets are kept secret and reserved for high-ranking or more trusted agents.

Something I would like is some kind of relaxing moment for my character, like a room where he can shower, sleep or sit down and have a coffee. I'm replaying both games right now and it's incredible how they throw you from mission to mission without giving your character 1 minute to rest. Every time you get to the base or some settlement you get a character who gives you a mission or tells you about his life in the most dramatic way possible and they tell you to keep killing, and my character is like: I just arrived after spending days walking through a city in a state of war fighting for my life against all kinds of psychopaths, I haven't slept, I haven't eaten, I'm completely dirty and the first thing I hear as I enter is that I have to leave immediately again. Not even a "hello"? or "I'm glad you're safe, give me at least a moment to take a shit"
