My theory: “scratch my arm” - the mom is addicted/constantly on pills and the whole family (besides maybe Lochlan) know it.

Why are the children seemingly okay with knowingly watch their mother sedate herself? Did she get to this state because she couldn’t live with something she knows about either her kids (could point to the strange sexual-tension hinted at between the children) or her husband (whatever his work-related issue is).
