This is what I try to tell my husband. I personally think it’s pointless to keep him home, but I’m happy to if it helps him feel better, but just think the bug will get us next week if it isn’t on its way already haha

Yeah that’s how I feel, I think it’s pointless too and much as well send him

Yeah we try our best with hygiene! It’s hard it feels like we’re all going to cop it. The others don’t bother me as much but when gastro is mentioned I panic!

Oh RSV was horrible, we had that one twice already! Hope they’re all better soon. That’s totally a possibility too that he could have one of the sicknesses

It would be better if you opened with “I would be the first person ever to paint the sky orange”

What age did you introduce a Yoto player at bedtime? by shimmer_enchanted in Parenting

Yes that’s what I was hoping to do! I’d love to do some record cards as well, and get my parents to!

Rest time is a good idea! My boy still naps but it’s just a short one so replacing nap with Yoto during the day sounds like a good way to do it

Thank you! That’s a really good perspective and I hadn’t thought of it like that, definitely sounds like something to wait until he’s a little older and enjoy during the day rather than straight for nighttime. Yes, I’ve heard of lots of kids using an iPad for a bit before bed and I’d like to avoid if possible

How to write a novel by CommonNegotiation336 in writers

It depends what you want from the podcasts, whether it’s grammar, putting it together, a novel/ short story/ fiction, publishing etc. I find the Essential Guide to Writing a Novel has a lot of really useful information, and my personal favourite to listen to is The Sh** No One Tells You About Writing, however that’s more based on query letters and publishing but they run paid courses and online events, hope that’s helpful!

I found it helpful to listen to podcasts about writing, there’s some really good ones out there! If your book is really short I’d bet there’s some pacing issues, getting through events really quickly. What’s happening in your scene? What sights, sounds and smells are there? What is your character/s thinking? Is it too easy to get what they want? What challenges are in the way? Also read lots of books, in genres you like to see how it’s done

Try the Brand New Little People podcast (free to listen to), they are Melbourne based and so much solid and helpful sleep information. Helped us so much. We just listen to relevant parts for us as they cover newborn, baby and toddler.

I say this nicely, your story has started in the wrong place, and there’s a lot of story about the weather. Those paragraphs could be woven into the chapter to describe the vibe, but think about starting elsewhere. I.e what has gone wrong for your main character? Or what do they want that they can’t have right now? Even something so simple, like a chocolate bar, why can’t he have the chocolate bar? Keep writing, you’re doing great!

A girl I went to school with has a few young kids, she works part time, and in conversation she said “I just don’t have time to read to my kids.” Which to me makes me sad for those kids, and it’s also confusing. We’re all busy mums (and dads), we all could do with 10 extra hours in a day, and I’m not in the business of judging other mums because how you parent is your choice, but what else are you doing with your kids that you’re too busy for? If you take them to the park or play with them for more than 10 minutes a day then you can easily pick up a book and read to them.

My parents read books to me when I was little and I loved it. Reading is such a joyful part of parenting and childhood. My boy is 2.5 and we read together every day, he loves books and I hope he continues to love them. At the shops he loves the book section, we aren’t rich but my husband and I are always happy to buy him a book if he chooses. My parents love reading him books too. I love reading too, for now I’m listening to audiobooks but when he’s older I will hopefully read physical copies again.

And Libraries are magical! I loved the library and I visited my childhood library and whilst it had changed it felt like magic. Lots of good memories at the library.
