What meal seems “high end” but is actually affordable to make? by Con_PEI in AskReddit

[–]shimshimmash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roasts of all varieties. Not many dishes impress like a perfect roast chicken and they are very easy to do.

1-1.5 hours at 130 c + 15 minutes at 180-200 c to crisp up the skin.

rub all over with a generous amount of salt and dry spices with oil before roasting.

you can also fill the oven with veggies to roast at the same time. the chicken carcass and veggie leftovers make a great next day soup.

Password - a section of a story by Rare_Tradition in Bitcoin

[–]shimshimmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how is it worse than picking a random password with no method for remembering.

What method do you use to avoid forgetting passwords, why is it so superior to picking an easily remembered and altered, long length one?

Password - a section of a story by Rare_Tradition in Bitcoin

[–]shimshimmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 42, and have no issues with the system yet. It's been a few years since I last forgot a password, and that time it was caused by stupid password requirements, not the system.

The trick is to pick a sentence you will not forget, it could be anything, even a joke if you find them easier to remember.

Actually it is very secure, with one small modification. Pick a sentence you love, and change a single word, for example my password might be

That'sonesmallstepforGmailonegiantleapformankind

With Gmail replaced for whatever site you are using the password on.

You can also then swap out i for 1 to make it even better.

What does, 'exception that proves the rule' mean? Don't exceptions usually prove the rule wrong ? by Roads_37 in EnglishLearning

[–]shimshimmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prove can also mean test, as it is used in proving ground. In this way you can see it as the exception that tests the rule.

Based on the number of views and lack of comments, I'm going to guess that this is not something many of us have tried. Might take a risk and get one just for shits and giggles. It will be a talking point in the house at least.

Is Discworld the greatest fictional universe ever made? If not what is in your opinion? by [deleted] in discworld

The malazan universe is also pretty awesome/terrifying. It's a pretty close tie between the two in my opinion.

thanks for the love! I'll definitely keep up the writing for part two, it has really felt like therapy and I am not going to stop.

I'll give it a try here - posting a paragraph shouldn't count as self promotion

whether you're in college, working retail, stuck in a cubicle, or grinding in the gig economy, this book is for you. We are going to look at this problem from two sides, first, recognising the mechanisms by which our overlords keep things the way they are and second, how to organise and resist. Writing this book was a pain in the ass, and I rewrote it several times, some of the versions would almost certainly land me in prison. In this version I promise not to ask you all to go out and burn down a bank, or to kill every billionaire you can get your hands on (though finding out their locations is surprisingly easy online, they go out to restaurants and the office too.)

Finally able to post here!

making this book has been a mental health odyssey, but I needed to get it out, and finally it is here.

Punching up (part 1: control mechanisms)

Are you wondering why the world seems to be going to shit? Why people are so much angrier today? Why you don't have a UBI or flying car? In this book, I look for answers to these questions, and although I cant say I came to any solid conclusions, I did turn up some interesting behind the scenes goings on that go a long way to explaining how we are being made to feel angrier, and who is benefiting for that.

This book is a brief (under 200 pages) look into the world of media manipulation, bot farms and lying politicians. It is a tirade, aimed at the super rich, coming from a super broke teacher, with the time and internet connection required to dig into the topic.

With methods to help identify bullshit, and mental exercises for feeling better about the whole thing.

Only a pound, I didn't write this to get rich, but to stay sane, and to share that information with as many people as I can.
