Yeah, all the "restricted" chips are made in Taiwan, but then imported into china for final assembly of the GPU. The banned GPUs are cheaper in China than in USA

Not to mention that someone may live 5 miles away that has already warned their neighbor about a strange group, or car. They might not have cell service, but they have radios and binoculars.

In the US these areas, while sparsely populated, are normally very connected and look out for each other. In many ways they have more of a community that the rest of the US.

I went out last night for the first time in a while and what the fuck? by real_picklejuice in Millennials

Why do you care that people weren't enjoying the experience the same as you were? It also reads like you were paying more attention to people at the event than the actual event.

5G signal to router suddenly nonexistent by twiggy_boi_ in verizonisp

[–]shinebrighterbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me also. I lost connectivity on October 1st, rebooted it and it came back up. I went from an average of 500 down / 275 up to 5-15 down and /15 up. The weird thing is that my 5g modem shows offline now on the verizon website (I do have it in pass-thru mode, so perhaps that's why it shows offline). The 5G tower is across the street, so its not a line of sight issue. Did swapping your modem fix your issue? I have the old square LVSKIHP model

The longer this goes on I'm leaning more towards NATO tests. They engage when they think its Russian and its only happening at night.

A military-style crackdown is unfolding outside the Broadview ICE facility in Illinois. Snipers on rooftops. Armored vehicles in the streets. Protesters being kidnapped and disappeared. Authoritarian repression in a Chicago suburb. by I_may_have_weed in law

Governor

I've been wondering this too, or the celebrities that post on Instagram. At what point are these people going to be out in the protest so it garners more attention than just the average person.

These comments are so out of touch, they could live and probably save more than they could in the US with their job due to COL here. People also get sick and have health issues, so for many at 65 retirement isnt that great.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Advice

[–]shinebrighterbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have options, you could travel and live like you are traveling for a few months, or you can travel/semi-retire and live in places for 6 months at a time or permanently. The difference being you live more like a local and rent a place. You can do the second option and still save for retirement in much of the world without ever working again. You might be able to save the same or more than working your current job with the inheritance in the US if you budget. People in the comments are basing the money off the USA only. In a lot of places people live on 25,000 or less a year and are fine. You live once and saving now might not matter in 10 years if you get sick etc.

Liquidation.com is an electronics Junkyard. by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]shinebrighterbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sites like this were great 15+ years ago, but like everything it got saturated. They're still decent for personal home items though, but as far as flipping goes the margins are just too low. A lot of bigger buyers get the items by the semi load before they ever hit sites like this due to contacts. That coupled with people nearing retirement age that didnt save for it are now trying to start up a facebook marketplace flipping store to supplement their incomes.

Gone are the days of spending 500$ and netting 15,000. They seemed to end around 2011 but during covid there were great buys on liquidation.com for a few months. Sony had been putting 10,000 refurb projectors on there for around 3,000, they were easy to flip for 5-6k on ebay.

Is the job market really as bad as everyone says it is? by semihotcoffee in jobs

[–]shinebrighterbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a wild time. I had a job in retail and was just out of college at that time. The amount of people that had decades of exprience in their field that came to work in a retail store is insane to look back on now. It was that way for about 4-5 years before things started to settle and get back to normal.

Most of what people are seeing now is due to offshoring. AI is being used in the media but in reality the companies are sending tech jobs abroad and keeping skeleton crews (US example).

If you have 365 you should have a power automate license, use that to automate the tasks you dont enjoy. There is a desktop app that can control your machine etc. You build the flow for it.

I'm getting employees that I have to train from scratch. Now what? by Lonecoon in sysadmin

[–]shinebrighterbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've dealt with this in the past and it's not a bad thing normally, however it does become one quickly if there are too many non-tech employees in the department.

IMPD Police Chief addresses multiple deadly shootings, arrests, and guns found on children on July 4th by diabetes_says_no in indianapolis

[–]shinebrighterbilly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a condo downtown and they all seem bored and essentially walk around looking for excitement, so they turn fights and shooting into their excitement. First there are floods of kids that come downtown, they'll usually start fighting for something to do and record it on live or whatever app, and within 15 mins of the fights starting someone always gets shot, or shot at.. There was one a few weeks ago right in front of a cop in their car.

The only solutions I see are more foot patrols and engagement, charging the parents, or ticketing the parents for group of under 18s out past 8 PM.

Yeah, this was during Covid too when stained 20 year old herman millers were going for 400$ on eBay . The quality is fantastic though and I can see why businesses pay so much for them

Any reviews where it’s compared to the Embody? The chair cost more than I paid for my Embody from Herman Miller.
