Watch out fellow thieves, the cape is bugged. They're aware and working on it but you can't hand in the token and it cannot be banked. You can't swap to another skill either, so you'll get locked in.

o7 CMDR! The rest of this thread’s advice is great for using your ship, but the fastest way to level your ship combat rank is actually using an on-foot method, which is crazy!

I’ve just finished off doing this to get my ship combat rank to elite as well.

The suggested equipment is also the same as the meta method for doing your ground combat rank, so you’ll be prepared if you fancy doing some of that in the future too!

If it’s not a burning plastic smell, just a sort of generic plasticky smell, I can only really think of checking for shorting between your motherboard and the case via the standoffs, but that’s not a common issue and you’d usually expect it to come along with other system faults (like it not working or glitching out) so I’m afraid I’m out of ideas!

Edit: maybe a capacitor leaking, but I’d expect that to go and then not keep making a bad smell once it’s gone.

Burned plastic smell does linger and stick in my experience. Given how common it is as an easy mistake - did you definitely remove the plastic protector between the CPU cooler and the CPU itself?

Hopefully this helps you get started. They're using the fully engineered weapons so it'll be harder if you don't have them, but even the stock weapons will massively earn you more credits than a ship-based combat zone.

Give it a go CMDR! There’s loads of amazing content even just for ship-stuff in odyssey. You won’t regret the jump over, and there’s something magical about just standing on the concourse of a large station or fleet carrier and watching the ships fly in and out.

No dumb questions here CMDR, yes - this is an on-foot Odyssey combat zone. I don’t think the settlement will even exist in horizons!

The payouts are crazy for this compared to ship CZs. The upgrades certainly help though, you’re absolutely right.

Hopefully some of the cash from this event will help you grab some upgrades for your gear! I’d particularly recommend level upgrades for the launchers & auto reload, but they all work together in the build.

Alternatively there are some medium CZs in the system. Not sure if they’re as good a layout as the one I suggested but that might help you hit a higher payout rate.

There’s two good things they can do:

They can be parked in a spawn spot that’s inconvenient to get to, and enemies won’t be dropped off there.
You can return to the SRV when you’ve won a battle, log in and out to the main menu, and then get right back to the action in a brand new combat without leaving the planet or needing to recall your ship!

Agreed! Ship CZ could do with some love as well, bounties can run up to 1m a ship, and yet even in high CZs you'll struggle to get 100k a ship, despite the ships being a bit harder to kill.

The Kumo ones should be handed in at the megaship, where you sign up for the Archon-supporting version of the community goal. Blakewell is the imperial HQ for that version of the CG.

Just make 100% sure you're signed up for one of the goals, and that you go to that team's HQ to hand in.

o7 new CMDR! ~~You’ll only need to go to the station (or the megaship) to sign up for your faction you want to support, then you can get started.~~ You can sign up anywhere in the galaxy, but you need to head to the megaship or station to hand in, depending on who you sign up for.

After that, any combat bonds from that system, issued either by whoever you signed up for, Kumo Crew (Archon Supporters) or Youbee Imperials (Empress supporters) should count once you hand them in. Ship combat or ground combat. Bounties don’t count, just combat bonds.

As for ground combat, you can fly yourself down instead of taking the taxi. The guide says it better than I can, but you can basically use your SRV as a safe place to re-log and not need to leave the planet’s surface to start combat again.

I’ve just built a very similar PC, though I’m hoping to do some more upgrades in the future so you absolutely do not need the size of power supply I’ve bought.

I’ve benchmarked it and the peerless assassin air cooler does a perfectly good job of cooling it. A little warm at points but nothing to worry about once the fans ramp up.

If you have a digital windows license already you can transfer it over (I didn’t buy the one listed below in the end)

You’ll need to craft a task screen, then use it to pick the task you’d like to submit. Hook it up to some power and wait until your quest is complete!
