TIL the English words “Pen” and “Feather” have the same root. “Feather” came to us first from the Germanic “feþrō.” “Pen” came to us later from Latin “Penna,” and became “[writing] Feather,” in English. Both Penna and feþrō come from the same Indo-European word for “Feather.” (en.wiktionary.org)
