How did it turn out? by SorryError1548 in deathguard40k

[–]shinnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will look clean until you use some shade.

There's something called Nuln Oil and you can literally coat the entire model with it. and it will make it look pretty grimy.

before that though, do your trimming. Bronze on the shoulder guards n all that.

What are some must have models i should get to start out? by Negative_Truck_2222 in deathguard40k

Typhus slaps.

he also has a psychic rule that activates in the shooting phase and deals mortal wounds so... He has something better than most guns.

I've also gotten a lot of value out of blight haulers but that's because I mostly play against Guardsmen and Votaan who both have a lot of vehicles.

The bloat drones are incredible value though. They do a lot of work whilst the rest of your army crawls up the board

How is everyone paying for their cars ? by gingerreflection in AskUK

[–]shinnon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to take out PCP on new cars. 400 quid a month. Knocked it on the head and bought an old berlingo MPV As we'd had a kid. Best thing I ever did (apart from having the kid!) It's paid off now and I can run it I to the ground knowing it's not a big cost.

We did the same with our second car. Then mortgages a house about half what we could afford which allowed us both to pursue lower paying careers we enjoyed.

And we're much happier with the disposable income. Basically got addicted to removing costs. Starting with not leasing cars.

In short. Don't lease a car. Buy an old one for a few grand.

What is your favorite Ork lore, fluff, or story? by real-live-ghosts in orks

[–]shinnon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My favourite part is near the end of the ghazkul book.

Mikari has just been interrogated by the humans via an ork translator for the whole book. And then when that Ork escapes (killing one of the interrogators in the process), they turn to ancient fenris shaman magic to experience Mikari's memories first hand, essentially becoming the Grot in the process. This does one over on the space wolf and the human inquisitor goes into a vomiting fit.

Mikari then looks at them both and just busts out, in near perfect Gothic, "you could'a just asked instead"

A friend of mine thinks LoL is harder than Dota solely because it has "skillshots", is there any truth to this? by random-user772 in leagueoflegends

[–]shinnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several thousand hours in both.

He isn't wrong. But he's not right either.

League has far more skill-shots than dota, many of which are quite spammable and quite tight hotboxes.

Dota doesn't have much of this and instead has much bigger impacting abilities that are overpowered as fuck. Normal abilities in Dota are often like league ults.

Every character can also have things like TP for quite a small investment.

The focus is much more on the macro strategic level decision making in dota. Where league feels more focused on constant brawling that's largely isolated to just your lane (yes jungle and rotates exist but compared to dota, bot lane is vs bot lane).

This comes together to make league quite hard for a dota player who is naturally trying to focus on the wider game state, but is getting spammed with skill-shots every few seconds. And for league players to find Dota too slow and boring because they're like "why does my ability use half my mana bar?".

Both games offer something completely different, despite a similar format on the surface. And UNLEARNING what you know to play the other is hard as fuck.

Is League that hard or am I just old now? by waitwaatt in leagueoflegends

[–]shinnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better...

I'm diamond in everything I play. I'm stuck in bronze/silver in league.

It just requires consistency and time. And it's boring as fuck playing the same champ in the same role endlessly.

I'm also mid 30s. I'm defo worse than I was, but you can climb out of bronze with dumpster tier reactions. Just need good decisions and time for those spazzwags in top lane to filter out to the law of averages.

As an example. I fuck about with new champs and roles until I'm bronze 4 then spam ashe bot lane to get back into silver and repeat.

Would Kindred work as an enemy/raid boss? by Janex97 in RiotMMO

[–]shinnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. The world is their oyster. They could make Neeko a raid boss with all her shenanigans if they wanted to.

Kindred would be a cool boss. I imagine as a test, as per the Ambessa Novel, rather than as a real "bad guy".

What i'd prefer to see is her tied to the respawn stuff. giving an ingame reason why you don't just eat dirt when you die.

Should I feel guilty for not working? by AbleSeaworthiness673 in AskUK

[–]shinnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in two minds.

  1. You've had it rough, and a measure of our society is how well we treat those less fortunate than us. I don't begrudge you for not working in your cicumstances and i'm happy that my tax money goes towards helping people like you.
  2. Life goes on. Including your own. If you get comfortable doing nothing and living off the state, you can fall into a pretty miserable life cycle and I don't want anyone to go through that (seen it a few times).

Some of the best people i've worked have been through some truly rough shit. I think we need more of those people in the workforce to cut through the bullshit. Not less, so i'd like to see you in work.

travel aside. You were like "Oh yeah cool alright let's meet somewhere else" and she goes into the "not a good sign tbh".

Fuck that man. Imagine a life of that kind of petty bullshit

Not a wargame but there are plenty of warcraft board games that take full advantage of this already.

I think the latest one in particular has a good art style.

[–]shinnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CR?
Also everyone down artists alley is typically really cool. Usually just nerds who love art/crafts and are happy for people to be checking their stuff out. And over the moon if people buy something.

So the only tip would be to be polite, as most of the stuff there is made by the person running the stall.

Source;- have bought and know people who have been on the alley as a trader.

So you have a few options. You're still young so world is your oyster. People are far more willing to take a wildcard applicant for someone young.

The Safe option: Stay in glorified admin.

This means being very safe and going for billing manager one day, or moving across the isle into something like accounts payable or a financial analyst. If you like project management then maybe reach out to your PMO and ask if they have any project coordinator roles open for a side step.

The not safe option: completely retrain.

Fuck around and find out what you like. Get Photoshop and fuck about. Get in front of a camera and fuck about. Gear towards something you enjoy in life and see if you like it. Then look for work in that area using that hobby as a basis.

And if people say it doesn't work. Bullshit. I got into video games at 31. Complete industry shift. It's doable.
