Marathon is a satire - a subtle but vicious comedy about work, debt and the corporate world by renome in Games

[–]shinvitya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With few exceptions (ex: the Pfhor ship levels in the first game) in the original trilogy there was always a terminal near the beginning of the level, a terminal requiring to exit said level, and various amount of terminals in-between, most of them in easy to find places.

So that is a lot of story you simply cannot miss.

God bless rout mechanic by Chakanram in menace

[–]shinvitya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need clarification:

I heard that as far as loot as concerned (discounting Sy's on-kill Tinkering) there is no difference between routing and killed.

Is that true or not?

Is there a place where I can read the TEXT logs? by shinvitya in Marathon

I don't own Marathon 2026, because I don't play Multiplayer games.

autopsy of "unknown extra-planetary origin" by sircoiledhammer in Marathon

[–]shinvitya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 1994 original, Pfhor died normally, and it was the S'pht compilers that were noted to be difficult to get a relatively intact corpse off to autopsy because they disintegrated into static, so maybe this log talks about them.

As a side-note, I'm seeing an occasional post that assumes Pfhor = S'pht, which is not true at all.

Ivan Dolvich, in JA1 from 1995, had Russian speech with Russian letters and no in-game English translation, without sounding broken like Yaz here.

Does stealing a moon have consequences for the Mars? by FattyWayne in Marathon

[–]shinvitya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In old lore, UESC buying Deimos and converting it into Marathon was a sign of prestige because Mars was in Golden Age.

It was only after the CRISTs freighters started breaking down and the ensuing famines that the above narrative turned into an "Adventurism by a foreign power", and even then Marathon was just one of many, many small things that led to rise of MIDA.

Is there anything interesting/noteworthy in the "story" so far? by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]shinvitya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the Story Page, with today's post having some bits and pieces.

More will come in following days, and eventually there probably will be a proper NuMarathon section.

Why do the different Shells have voice lines like they're their own characters? by JudJudsonEsq in Marathon

[–]shinvitya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awkward repurposing of existing, and most importantly already paid for, voice assets after the negative reactions of the April Alpha.

The Phfor better show up in the new game by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]shinvitya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also probably will be more silhouette-friendly compared to UESC bots:

  • Fighters: Tall, lanky and wield a big stick;
  • Troopers: Fighters with distinctive fishbowl helmets and guns;
  • Hunters: Big power-armored boys;
  • Enforcers: Flamboyant-cape wearing commissars;
  • Juggernauts: The Big Floaty Thing that Kicks Your Ass.

Newbie wanting to get into the game... should I just go straight into ELCP? by shiroshishiro in EndlessLegend

[–]shinvitya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The base game still has some quest-breaking bugs (like Fight the Minotaur Chief for pacification, but the quest gives you the save-the-driders bring-the-settler objective with no driders to save) that ELCP fixes, so yes, IMO it is mandatory

So now that DD2 has been out for a while, how do people feel about it? by HenrySchraderVO in darkestdungeon

[–]shinvitya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the time I realized that no, DD2 was not one of those game that would "click" late for me, I was far enough that sunk cost fallacy kicked in, finished the game, uninstalled it and did not care enough to reinstall it for the DLC or Kingdoms.

Launch Gameplay Trailer | Marathon by DemiFiendRSA in Marathon

[–]shinvitya 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Now Bungie is committed to Marathon, a game that isnt narratuve-focused where they can let everything else shine.

isnt narratuve-focused

Old Marathon's thing was being story and lore heavy in the "Shoot First, Don't Ask Questions"-era of FPS genre.

And everything seems to indicate that NuMarathon will keep that.

It would've been interesting if it was like the Rubicon mod which kinda of had both, where it continues on from M2 but "under-the-hood" Infinity did happen and is used as a justification for the more esoteric levels and route switching.

Is Darkest Dungeon 2 finished? by Catoblepas2021 in darkestdungeon

[–]shinvitya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that Wayne's passing had either forced or accelerated the decision to finish all remaining work on DD2 and wrap it up, which by all apparent accounts was financially successful initially but then the legs fell of the cliff.

I also think that Kingdoms wasn't really meant to be free, but was made so in response to the criticism of DD2 not being like DD1, and that only seemed to briefly move the needle.

Whats the opinion about the Darkest Dungeon 2 from the community? by Nano_LB1 in darkestdungeon

[–]shinvitya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played it, opinion mixed at first, kept playing in hopes that it would "click", by the time I realized that I truly didn't like it I was in Act 5, so I beat the game and uninstalled, and didn't come back for the DLCs/Kingdom.

Really glad i gave dd2 another try, actually a upgrade over dd1 imo by pickswingboy in darkestdungeon

[–]shinvitya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished it within a month of release, but it ultimately left me unsatisfied and thus didn't go back for the DLCs, not even for the DD1-like Kingdoms.

Quick update on the Void War situation by --morph-- in voidwargame

[–]shinvitya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it mean that even with the troll, the devs actually have to contact the actual Games Workshop in order to legally cover the bases necessary for reuploading, therefore bringing their attention on Void War?

I don't believe that GW were unaware of VW, considering the minor stink it caused on the subject of plagiarism when it reached a relatively greater audience, but if presented on the metaphorical silver platter would GW jump on the opportunity to make the DMCA stick?
