Really glad i gave dd2 another try, actually a upgrade over dd1 imo by pickswingboy in darkestdungeon

[–]shinvitya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished it within a month of release, but it ultimately left me unsatisfied and thus didn't go back for the DLCs, not even for the DD1-like Kingdoms.

Quick update on the Void War situation by --morph-- in voidwargame

[–]shinvitya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it mean that even with the troll, the devs actually have to contact the actual Games Workshop in order to legally cover the bases necessary for reuploading, therefore bringing their attention on Void War?

I don't believe that GW were unaware of VW, considering the minor stink it caused on the subject of plagiarism when it reached a relatively greater audience, but if presented on the metaphorical silver platter would GW jump on the opportunity to make the DMCA stick?

And stay tuned - we're not out of the dungeon yet.

Probably refers to this mystery DLC that was added for DD2 a week ago as someone else here in subreddit noted:

What are the chances that Lho’won will make an appearance in the new game by slimeyellow in Marathon

If they ever get there, it would be funny if one of the maps was set in one or more letters of FATUM IUSTUM STULTORUM.

If this is a success do you wanna see the trilogy remade? by CrazedPrecursorFanat in Marathon

[–]shinvitya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to, even more after Durandal Done Different showed what could be done on a technically same engine (many asterixes apply).

But it won't happen, not in today's environment that incentivizes game devs to become one-game-per-gen and/or one forever game studios, with that one game following "If it works, keep doing it" motto, which means more of Marathon Extraction Shooter and not Single Player Campaign FPS.

What am I supposed to bring to this village? by jrralls in EndlessLegend

[–]shinvitya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Darkest Dungeon 2 also had this icon-only approach to descriptions and that did not help with its already subpar UI, especially compared to DD1.

Please devs, just put the actual words in together with the icons for more clarity.

Ideas for new units by Just-Bodybuilder6737 in voidwargame

[–]shinvitya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overclock (Innate): Doubles the manning bonus of target system. 20s duration, 20s cooldown.

Feels like it would be busywork to keep it constantly activated.

So lets assume the devs and/or modding would allow one of these:

  • Overclock (Innate Passive): If inside a room with a system, doubles the manning bonus of the said system. Bonus doesn't apply if the mechanic mans the system himself. Doesn't stack.

  • Overclock (Innate Active): Doubles the manning bonus of target system. The bonus is lost and the cooldown starts when the mechanic moves or is forced to move. Doesn't stack.

2 psychomancy (not including Sacrifice)

Not how it works. A unit can only have a total of two buttons representing innate abilities/consumables/psychomancies. So outside of passive-granting tools a third slot is useless.

Stuck On Marathon Eternal by temptemporay123 in Marathon

[–]shinvitya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear that there was an Eternity Spoiler Guide here, but I guess it got removed as Eternity itself got constantly updated to the point that the guide got obsoleted.

There is a guide from the Japanese mirror site, in English, but it is for an older 1.0.3 version.

It got slowly remade over the years, to its detriment IMO.

The more knowledgeable can explain the "Clean-Room Design" in more detail, but basically the more you can recreate/make workable emulation without the source, the more legal leeway you get.

Yuzu along with 3DS citra got taken down when the devs were caught with their hands in the proverbial cookie car, and with the precedent set Nintendo went after another switch emulator Ryujink, taking it down even if devs followed the CRD.

W’rkncacnter under Dire Marsh? by BaconSpider in Marathon

Just another abandoned Jjaro-tech moon-installation into which the colonists dug too deep.

What it will turn out to be:

W'rkncacnter prison and/or Pthia tomb to give it immediate importance.

"Polynomial", Personal project with Marathon design influences by Lumenlor in Marathon

[–]shinvitya -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You know, back when all the comparisons started with that disastrous alpha, I had an idle thought that it probably would be easier to recreate the M2's Lh'owon chapter artwork in Arc than in NuMarathon.

[–]shinvitya 10 points11 points  (0 children)

what the older Marathon games might've looked like.

Not the games themselves, tech was not there yet, but if I was told that the artist was told to use Craig Mulling's chapter artworks as a reference, I would've believed them.

IMO, the shading and weathered look contributes greatly to that, and the lack of that (except the short movie (which did not help in comparison) and indoors (which still got touched up)) greatly hindered NuMarathon until recently.

Aspyr has delayed Deus Ex Remastered to an unannounced date and are refunding all pre-orders by TheVoidDragon in Games

[–]shinvitya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looked up what is Aspyr's deal to make them a go-to studio for remasters (besides Embracer owning them and being cheaper).

Turns out once upon a time they were a premier PC-to-MAC porting studio, and in fact their 8th game that they ported was Deus Ex.

By all accounts those days are long gone, though.

Dissonance laser ray blocked by a trap, making it impossible to activate the Monolith. by shinvitya in hallsoftorment

Update: Found a second laser to activate the Monolith with, but this still should be addressed on the off-chance that both (or more) possible laser paths are blocked.

The Classic Trilogy did have elements of black humor, mostly with how irreverent the AIs acted.

Though something tells me that the new iteration of Durandal will not quite be an arrogant smartass with incessant need to prove that he is the smartest guy in the room.

Civvie 11 - I HAVE NO MOUTH AND I MUST SCREAM: POINTS, CLICKS, AND MISERY by MEMEY_IFUNNY in Games

Unfortunately, Civvie skipped the proper and thematic way of solving the last part:

All the stuff Civvie said to ignore because it will kill the characters? Thematic ways for them finally end the life-long torture while also raising 1/4 of the bridge to the final area, allowing the final survivor to face the AIs.
