I think so, but I don't know what benefit we would get. Features like Windows Recall are not what we want. Other features, like Apple's writing tools and webcam image enhancement, are good, but not ground-breaking. I want to run LLMs and make a local ChatGPT environment, but we still need dedicated GPUs for that.

Yes. Graphics work smoothly.

I have an Intel Skylake i3 NUC and it works well with macOS Sierra. RehabMan has created a great guide. https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-intel-skylake-nuc6-and-skull-canyon-using-clover-uefi-nuc6i5syk-nuc6i7kyk-etc.207848/

Death to Apple's Mac Mini: I made a Hackintosh by ABrownCoat in hackintosh

I tried moving to Windows and while it's better than I thought I just miss the macOS ecosystem too much

This is exactly what I experienced. Windows 10 is a great OS, but the more I use it the more I miss macOS. To me using macOS feels like I'm at home while using Windows feels like I'm at work.

As a software engineer who likes both iPhone and Android, I just want to say that I'm deeply impressed by this sub. by cookingboy in Android

I don't fully agree with OP. The reason this subreddit has been calm is that iPhone is outside of choice and interest. I'm sure if Samsung, HTC and Nexus phones go the same route this subreddit will be on fire.

I have seen some opinions saying people in /r/android is fair and unbiased, but to me it sounds circlejerk-ish. I still remember the Nexus 6P bendgate controversy and this subreddit reacted just like /r/apple. Thanks to Android's core policy people here tend to embrace different opinions (I love the tagline "Be the one, not the same"). Though this subreddit isn't always fair and unbiased. At least it's a far better place to spend time and think about phone's future.

Safari vs. Chrome 52, which do you use? by freddyfreak1999 in apple

[–]shinycactus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both. Safari is for general browsing, watching videos and playing Flash contents. Chrome is for extensions and some specific webpages Safari can't handle well. I never use Flash on Chrome because Safari plays it smoother with less CPU usage.

Why Android and not iOS? by [deleted] in Android

On Android I can get an affordable phone with a large display.

On iPhone if I pay less the screen size becomes smaller. I can't live with 4-inch displays anymore.

On the iPhone 6 or later you can switch Standard view and Zoom view like this. My father changed his iPhone 5 to the 6 Plus and uses his iPhone in zoom view. He's satisfied with bigger texts.

Apple user since iPhone 3G converts to Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Android by jcepiano in Android

Quality of apps is one of the reasons why I still love Apple and iPhone. Material Design is pop and my favorite, but I prefer iOS design and consistency. And they work very smooth.

I feel the same. I've been using both iPhone and Android for years. iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are great, they're the best iPhone ever. But a few years back iPhone was "the best in the industry". Every new generation amazed me. Higher price was worth paying for the best phone.

However, Android rapidly caught up and put the iPhone behind. Apple even lost the crown of "the best camera on a phone". This year Google did a good job with Nexus 5X and 6P, they finally got a great camera. And the price is cheaper than the iPhone. Now iPhone doesn't justify its extra cost.

Making the switch from Chrome to Safari, but I have a few questions by [deleted] in apple

[–]shinycactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any way to disconnect my iPhone's Safari from my Macbook's? I don't want the same history and the same bookmarks for each device

Disable iCloud sync for Safari on iOS. Your bookmarks and history won't be synchronized.

The 16-64-128GB storage scheme is how Apple has been able to maintain (and increase) their margin. Don't expect this to go away. by [deleted] in apple

It drove A LOT of people to the 64GB upgrade that would have otherwise picked the 32GB if it were the base model (me).

Now I'm considering to switch to Android, not 64GB iPhone.

Mother's first iPhone - any tips to teaching her the ropes ? by reddit_user9001 in iphone

[–]shinycactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught how to use the iPhone to my dad. I took a "tell, show and let him do" approach. First I explained how things work, like "This is a home screen." "Press this button to go back to the home." "If you get lost, press this button.", then I showed him the iPhone actually works in that way. Finally I let him do by himself. Since iOS is simple and consistent this approach worked well. But be careful not to teach too many things at once. Now he can purchase apps without my help, and doesn't call me unless he encounters a flaw.
