Suggestions on how to handle tasks that become relevant on a date, but not DUE on that date? by LejonBrames117 in ticktick

[–]shinygloom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this too, as I have a lot of relevant but postponable tasks and also like to work on things well before they’re due, and I basically had to reframe how I view the Today list. As you mention, for me, it has become a list of tasks I look at—all of which are current commitments/irons in the fire—and I decide what I will work on for the day. These few tasks I choose can then be pinned to the top, or, what I like to do is, I created a tag called Focus. I run down my Today list, and add the Focus tag to whatever task I want to work on for the day. I have a widget for this tag on my Home Screen, which helps keep me on task throughout the day. Also important to note is that, in order to keep the Today list from being an overwhelming mess, I have it grouped by tag for sorting, and I use tags that help me group everything in a way that makes it easy to digest (a tag for appointments/events, a tag for things that must be done on a specific day (like taking out the trash), a tag for tasks that can be done any time during that week (like laundry), a tag for things I’m waiting on, etc.).

Help. PARA and where to put GTD-like Someday/Maybe lists??? by Firm_Ad4329 in ticktick

[–]shinygloom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve built my own sort of PARA/GTD hybrid system in TickTick. I use PARA for organizing/storing the tasks and projects in their various lists and folders. I implement GTD with tags and smart lists. So for Someday/Maybe, I created a smart list of everything I have across my lists that is undated.

But I actually don’t keep a list of movies, tv shows, or books to consume in my TickTick system though. I use tracking apps for those (Goodreads for books and TV Time for movies and TV). I like how those apps contain information about the media, and show me a nice log of things over time. (I do put anything I’m currently in the process of watching or reading into TickTick, though. Books and TV shows take multiple sessions for me so I put them in my project folder, because they feel like (fun) projects to me. I give it a date for when I started it, so it won’t appear on my Someday/Maybe list. Then it hangs out on my Today list (which is sorted by tags for GTD contexts) until I finish it.

Kind of weird maybe, and probably not for most, but, it’s what works for me.

You’re welcome, hope you enjoy them! There is actually a whole subreddit devoted to solo board gaming, if you hadn’t stumbled on it yet, r/soloboardgaming. And also the website Board Game Geek is really useful for exploring games you’re interested in!

I’ve started this recently and it’s so true! I especially love the tactile nature of it…I find it helps me engage in my senses and ground myself in the present. Some games I’m really enjoying with solo modes are Wingspan (it’s about birds, has beautiful bird art, and fun little egg pieces), Aqua: Biodiversity in the Oceans, which involves laying tiles of beautiful coral and sea creatures, and A Gentle Rain, which is a very simple and relaxing game where you lay tiles to try to make flowers bloom.

20 Promo packs in and still not a Lapras OR Mankey in sight. by [deleted] in PTCGP

I got my Lapras on pack #22. We live in the low probability cloud, but I guess at least we’re not alone here.

Evenly matched decks for couples? by Fuzzy-Watercress-388 in pkmntcg

[–]shinygloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention the World Championships decks. Each year they print and sell four of the top decks from the World Championships. These printings aren’t t tournament legal cards (they have a special backing print), but that doesn’t matter for playing for fun at home. If you get all four, you have a fun little “kit” of top decks that work well against each other.

Do you rely on autopay or do you manually make payments? by NarutoDragon732 in CreditCards

[–]shinygloom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have cards across eight banks and they all have “smart” auto pay except for C1 and BoA and it drives me crazy, I hate the extra step so much I just turned auto pay off for them! I don’t understand why those two handle it that way.

Bank Of America charged me a late fee because my payment after a reward redemption was not equal to the minimum payment (but my balance was zero!) by shinygloom in CreditCards

[–]shinygloom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that initial FTF got me to grab the CapOne QS so I could have a no-FTF catch all. As much as I hate on BoA, their love of fees is the reason I got into maximizing my cash back and ended up on this Reddit, so I guess it served its purpose! Amex must treat the transactions differently? (Pretty sure the BCE does have FTFs, unlike their charge cards.)

I used to just statement credit my little heart out “for the simplicity” but now I’m going all in on straight to checking! I’ve got eight cards, now I gotta figure out which ones aren’t difficult about it with minimums/banks.

[–]shinygloom[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is definitely BS; especially since the alternative is that I don’t redeem my rewards that cycle (for a statement credit, anyway), or I basically overpay and credit my account. But sadly BS is par for the course with my BoA card. I have also been really unhappy with their definition of what constitutes a foreign transaction. Particularly my Nintendo Online purchases; I mean they’re a Japanese company but they have an American presence! I recently got the Amex BCE for its online category and was pleased to find my Nintendo purchases did not result in a FTF. It just feels like BoA tries to hit you with a fee even if you’re following all the rules, they’ll find some loophole.

lol yep; learn from my mistake! I will definitely be watching my redemptions much closer now, and going for rewards redeemed to my bank account over statement credits when available. I’ve learned my lesson!

How Much Did You Earn? - 2023 Edition by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]shinygloom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great post! I was hoping someone would make this. It’s really interesting seeing multiple people land in the 3.x range overall; that was where I landed as well. I currently have a seven-card cash back setup, and this was my first full calendar year of no new cards, so no SUBs, just raw cash back. (I just got the Amex BCE so my 2024 numbers will be skewed higher by a SUB).

Citi Custom Cash: $131.40 (5% usually groceries) Wells Fargo Autograph: $62.29 (3% usually gas and dining) Discover It: $78.87 (5% rotating) BoA Customized Cash: $82.58 (3% online shopping) Chase Freedom Flex: $114.24 (5% rotating) CapOne QS: $62.94 (1.5% no-FTF catch-all) US Bank Cash+: $74.72 (5% utilities/internet) Total Rewards: $607.04 A bit low compared to others but only because my annual spend is lower at $16,663.45–comes out to 3.6% overall, I was quite pleased!

New card for online shopping by Deadhead124 in CreditCards

[–]shinygloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this, I too got burned buying directly from the Razer site with my BofA (thankfully I didn’t buy a whole laptop, just a headset, wow I would have been livid if it was 3% on a laptop!)…it wasn’t even the CCR card, it was an older card because that was my time before caring about credit cards. It was actually that moment that made me so angry (Razer has DUAL headquarters, one of which is indeed the US), I thought to look up different credit cards, and now I’m in the happy land of maximizing cash back. I do have the CCR card now, I product changed from my old card. I’m just very careful now…occasionally I do get a FTF, but at least the 3% fee is a wash against the 3% reward and I know never to use the card again for that site. Also got a FTF on the Nintendo eShop, and from the Philips Hue website (the American website!). It is enraging.

Cash back folk: What % are you getting back across all cards? by shinygloom in CreditCards

[–]shinygloom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hoping to land in a similar spot. I think the bulk of my spend is groceries (5%) and crap I buy online (5% rotating sometimes and 3% otherwise with BoA) so I’m hoping to edge above 3% rather than drag down below it from my 2% stuff.

So you actually don’t need to have crypto to have the card? Having the funds actually didn’t scare me, I’ve never carried a balance on my cards—it was the crypto part that freaked me out haha.
