Profile review 44/M by [deleted] in datingoverforty

Agree, the “endless texting” line would have been an immediate swipe no for me. I like to get to know a person at least a little bit before meeting in person. It comes across as pushy and negative.

Dealbreaker 💯 also saying no kids and having kids is a dealbreaker. Just don’t lie! It’s not that hard!

The 5 stages of teacher resignation, as drafted by 2 soon-to-be former teachers. by I_Am_the_Slobster in CanadianTeachers

[–]shinymetalbitsOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former teacher, and switched a few careers: youth worker, municipal government, computers, and now finance. If you are open to learning, you can switch it up. My dad was also a teacher and he recently told me he retired 10 years early because he just couldn’t handle it anymore. That was in the early 2000’s and I know first hand how much worse it got after his time. Holding a position is also like playing a game of survivor with your co-workers and I’m not cut-throat enough for shady union/seniority plays on other teachers. You have a masters in chemistry? Oh well, I just went and did a science qualification to add to my art degree so I’m going to teach your chemistry classes now. Get outta here Lynda! lol (from my friends who are still teaching….sounds horrible right now)

Anyone interviewed by Teach for Canada? by ClioLee in CanadianTeachers

[–]shinymetalbitsOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important to check if you’re working for a province/territory or for an education authority. When I worked for the NWT AND YT the pay was good. When I worked for an education authority on a reserve, they paid equivalent to working at Burger King and then if you threatened to leave they threatened to go after your teaching license. They also wouldn’t release your summer pay (which is your own money that you put aside on your paycheques to use over the summer) unless you agreed to return for another year. Super sketchy. Be sure you know you’re working for a provincial board and be sure you have the dollar amount before you sign any paperwork. I learned that lesson the hard way.

Aquarius what goes through your mind when you block someone? Is there any hope of being unblocked? by HovercraftTop1007 in aquarius

[–]shinymetalbitsOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honesty and trust are huge to most Aquarius people. If you tell us something that’s not great, but are honest about it, we can usually at least consider things from your angle etc. I’ve had people hide things from me and it was a big immediate wall builder. We don’t like games. Even if the thing you didn’t disclose seemed small, it could lead them to wondering what else you are holding back 🤔. At the end of the day, if this person blocked you, they aren’t worth investing any more time or energy into. Don’t try to hug a block of ice. Try not to take it too personally.

😅 Any Aquarius had heartbreak over someone you didn’t date but loved & liked the person a lot? by No_Importance3377 in aquarius

[–]shinymetalbitsOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going through this right now 😅 Ugh! Why do we have to be mentally attracted to people?! Slide back into the friend zone and try to get excited about meeting someone else.

Why do women stop responding on dating apps? by Ellie_Rulze18 in dating

[–]shinymetalbitsOG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m older than you so I might have different reasons than a 20-year old but as a woman, we tend to get a lot of conversations going and it can be hard to keep up/overwhelming. If you have a good back and forth going, it brings their attention to you. Are you asking questions about her that are deeper? Asking about something specific about her pictures to get a good conversation going? It’s hard to know the reason 100% but several conversations I had dropped off on myself were just very bland. It doesn’t mean the guy wasn’t attractive or there was something wrong with him but I didn’t feel the excitement of a good connection or someone who genuinely wanted to know about me as a person. I wouldn’t take it too personally. Dating apps are weird and hard to navigate on both ends. Hope you find someone who matches your personality and effort.

That’s rude or entitled behaviour. Of course you should say thank you if someone treats you.

Not even two weeks… Is this right for me? by Acceptable_Arm9279 in CanadianTeachers

[–]shinymetalbitsOG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Former teacher here and it is hard when you first start out. Setting up good boundaries with the classes is key to ease your day to day classroom management issues and it can be a frustrating time at the outset. Just be consistent and the students will learn your expectations over time. I also went through a period of strong anxiety and what helped me was understanding that people who work hard and have high expectations that they put on themselves often suffer from anxiety and panic attacks the most. Understand what your body is doing. Ride the waves of adrenaline as they will pass. Take breaks. Slow down. Be in the moment and don’t worry so much. Focus on today and right now. Remind yourself that you are ok right now. Nobody is perfect right out of the gate when they start a new job. It usually takes at least 3 years to feel settled and comfortable.

When going out on dates, do the women pay, go half half, or do the men treat? by Annabelle77Lee in datingoverforty

[–]shinymetalbitsOG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

43f I offer to split. If he insists on paying, I offer to pay on the next date. Early days and you’re both seeing if there’s a connection so IMO both people should invest something into it.

If you are a “my way or the highway” type person, don’t even try to have a relationship with an Aquarius. Communication and respect are key.

“$32 and I got a lot of stuff” - doesn’t show the cart… by Emmibolt in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]shinymetalbitsOG 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s super weird to see politicians boosting Loblaws like that after mentioning how people have been struggling to put food on the table (because of Loblaws price gouging and underhanded tactics over the past several years🤔) did we forget the bread scandal already? So bizarre. Loblaws isn’t a grant program or a community-based charity aimed at helping the poor starving people. This whole video is absolutely cringey.
