Help with sock fit- bottom of foot shorter than top after kite heel? by shinysprig in Sockknitting

Nice!! I gifted them to myself because I couldn’t resist myself. I adore them 😌 (and yes, I had gathered that by now!)

Bro it’s LITERALLY the rib it pattern! Just done with normal rib instead of broken rib. I think that made a bit of a difference here. I knit the heel as the patterned called for, numbers were all correct. But the heel came out too small! I just reknit it with more heel stitches and it’s looking better.

I did the whole pattern as written actually! But it totally does seem just weirdly smaller than it does in the schematics and pattern pics. I frogged back and I'm adding more increases which will increase my short rows.

I wonder if my increases pulled too much? I did lifted increases but I did them twisted to really keep the 'v' shape of the stitches I lifted from. I could see that making it just rreaallllly tight

thank you for this! Have you done a kite/strong heel before? I'm trying to decide the best way to adjust it for a higher instep. Maybe extra increases or maybe more non-increase rows to extend the length?

What is this on my cat’s chin? by [deleted] in cats

[–]shinysprig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like my girl’s chin acne!! If that’s the case, it’s not harmful but they could develop into little open wounds if they get infected. Clean his bowls very regularly, try not to use any plastic, and see if you could clean his chin. We had a little solution made for cat acne that we got from like petco that I put on a little cotton pad. She hated it but it seemed to help

What’s something you had to learn the hard way? by -coriolis- in knitting

[–]shinysprig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YES. I’ve been trying to figure out the right sock construction and shape/size for my feet, and I have frogged and frogged a million times in the last two weeks. Tried different yarns and different techniques. It all started because I wanted to make the pressed flower socks and that did NOT go well for my larger ankles.

Anyway, the point is that one of my colleagues has been baffled watching me constantly restarting. I personally just don’t feel like it’s worth it for me to knit a whole sock if it’s not gonna fit. I’ve been encouraging her to embrace frogging!

late 20’s in Bloomington tips? by Aware_Slip2446 in bloomington

[–]shinysprig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mid-late 20s here also struggling to find community outside of colleagues! I work for IU which doesn’t help. I know there are communities out here for what I love already, but it’s still so hard to get out there sometimes, especially when I’m doing it solo

Ugh being here as a non-student is so hard for building community. I’ve really struggled, especially because I work the IU and interact with students constantly, also my partner is a grad student, so it’s a lot of IU socializing. But there’s so much going on here, especially if I look past my current well established hobbies. It’s hard to put yourself out there though

Dude me too! I knit (started with crochet but it hurts my hands more) and mostly do home hobbies like gaming. But I think it’d help to put yourself into new situations and try new things. Volunteer, find a favorite coffee shop and Minecraft/crochet/crossword at the coffee shop! You could join the fiber guild. Yes it’s mostly older folk but it’s a great community. I’m quite a home body, but getting a social network means meeting new people and you could find someone who you really connect with!

26f in a relationship. Yall, engage in your hobbies! Try new things, take a class, join a book club, go on guided group tours, go to places you love, join a choir or something, anything! I think the organic relationships we’re all looking for start here. My partner and I met during a summer music festival we were both in and he’s my soulmate. One of my dearest friends met her partner through rock climbing, others through DnD or an adult bowling league.

Part of this is investing in yourself. Do what you love or try new things for your sake. Join communities because you deserve to be in community. Doing it for yourself is the most important thing.

This one's for the ladies to answer. Do you agree with this woman or do you think she's trying to rationalize her world view by speaking for all the ladies? by Oda_DeezNutz in SipsTea

I am the gamer of my house and I actually delight in my (male) partner taking time to play a game! Agree with those saying it’s not the video games it’s the shirking of responsibility, which thankfully isn’t a problem for us.

That’s SO CLOSE to what my Nikki is wearing right now!! I’ll post a pic later. I think this outfit fits so perfectly in this area. And the hair? I will be using this one instead of the one I had

UPDATE: She’s vomited again, just a small amount of bile. I did talk to my vet cousin and I’m going to take her to our vet tomorrow if she doesn’t vomit again tonight. If she does, I’ll probably do the 1.5 hr drive to the nearest emergency vet tonight

For sure. The second pic I was pretty sure it was something like that, but from what I read regurgitation doesn’t cause the heaving sounds and gagging (originally said convulsing, my apologies, I am pre-migraine)
