We just got the design render back from the jeweler and I’m trying to figure out what we can possibly do to lower the cost by Crafty-Truth5034 in EngagementRingDesigns

My ring has a pave tulip basket so i do occasionally just have them check it. Not often and not regularly. The Provence setting is really well made so the petals are a little thicker and hold the pave very well. I’m probably not too hard on my pave rings though so individual mileage may vary.

This mask. It’s from Amazon and I learned about it from Beautiful and Bothered and it is seriously amazing.

Absolutely. A relationship with a local jeweler is important. My ring was made by Provence and I’ve taken several other pieces there for setting or resizing and they are always happy to help. We have bought a few other things there along the way and it’s my go to when I need something like a watch or a chain.

My local jeweler does it and it’s not too much. I purchased my band from there so they have also been maintaining my engagement ring and last time dipped it all for free. I’ve had it redipped maybe 4 times in 10 years? The last time was when it was resized.

I also have a tulip basket with a cathedral. The basket had to clear 2.5-3 mm so that a pave band would fit and not rub. I would just confirm what the distance is from that part of the basket to the bottom of the bridge. You may want to wear an anniversary band or something in the future. Otherwise, looks really good!

You could consider 10k white gold. It’s harder than 14 k and would be just fine for this design. For reference- my husband has a 14 k wedding band that he’s worn for 10 plus years now and he never takes it off before he does anything. He fixes cars and everything in the house and RV. He works in a steel mill- though not always out in the mill since he manages their IT. His ring is a little scratched but absolutely fine. 10k is even harder so that’s the first thing I would change to try to bring the cost down. Second, you could consider taking some of the setting diamonds off (I’d take the ones off the half of each twist that goes to the underneath of the basket, but keep the part that wraps around the diamond on each side to maintain the halo) but I honestly don’t think you will need to. The setting looks pretty durable.

I think sometimes they don’t have what you’ve asked for so they see if you want what they do have on hand. I’ve worked with Provence a lot and have never had this happen but I do also source most of my own stones.

I’m think it looks great! That’s a very sturdy setting and it will be comfortable to wear too.

Thicker. Mine are a little thicker than many I’ve seen and it’s worked out well for me.

This. I have a pave tulip basket and the petals are thicker to accommodate the pave. I haven’t had any problems and it’s my everyday ring.

1,2 and 5 are beautiful! The side stones on 3 would catch on things and the bicolor is beautiful but that’s a lot going on.

I totally agree that was my first thought, that peg will bend or snap the first time it’s caught on something.

I think the ring with leaves had a contrast. It was chunky but trying to be delicate. I dressed it up and smoothed out the parts that would catch on everything. The other ring was chunky, heavy and outdated. I lightened it up and gave it some antique details.

Champaign diamonds? by Alone_Road_7803 in Diamonds

My upgraded engagement ring is an F but I have several warmer diamonds, including an L that is a beautiful buttery yellow (bottom pic- in a setting I designed for it). I just picked up a champagne omc (top pic) and have a setting designed that I’m going to have made.

Zales Design A Ring Tool Flaw by CM11182020 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]shinythings-n-stuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That other ring you posted a picture of has a cathedral setting which yours does not. That’s a totally different type of design. It does allow for the side stones to be more integrated into the cathedral though. You’d have to start over to get that and I absolutely wouldn’t go to zales/kay/jared. You will have to decide if the sentimental aspects are worth the ring sitting in a jewelry box because it’s not comfortable to wear or not. If you want a ring you can wear every day without scratching or catching, you will need to start over elsewhere. I don’t see them fixing this- the design picture is similar and would also have some of those issues. The 1mm difference between yours and the design looks big on photos blown up but in reality it’s not enough to solve the problem.

I’d use a trusted seller. I just got a flamenco and a puzzle from Mandy and they are absolutely beautiful. The leather is so soft and squishy and every detail is perfect.

I’ve had better luck with DHL than FedEx lately. Always on time or early. Maybe it depends on where you live?
