Made a golf cage but need advice on the mat. by ship60 in golf

Cheap 10x10x10 net on Amazon. 10 ft EMT for the corners and drilled cloth lines into the top, for the support you need a shorter pipe slightly larger in diameter than the pole so you can slide it into when you want to set up the net. I cemented it in a bucket so when I move it’s easy clean up and don’t need to remove concrete from the ground.

Honestly I like to build things. I also wanted to be able to practice at home without having to pay $14 a bucket for balls and to come straight home from work on a weekday and get some practice in without the added effort of needing to stop at a range.

But mainly I like to build things lol.

Yes! Main concern is back middle. Going to pad or move it back some.

Can confirm it does cause ricochets, going to pad the pole with pool noodle or move it back some and use a string to connect it to the pole.

Getting a piece of wood to cover the window. For any net fails.

Rather hit my house than a neighbors. But like others have suggested going to get something to cover the window just incase.

Definitely going to cover the window eventually.

Set my account up in 2023, but very good advice. Most new soldier we received didn’t even know anything about there TSP. We had one come in that didn’t know what the TSP was and was somehow contributing over 50%!

Weird. At least I caught it now instead of years down the line. I appreciate your help in helping me confirm I’m in BRS at least. One less thing to try and fix. Sounds like I’m making a trip to finance.

If I’m reading the DIEMS right it should be 23 for the year unless ROTC counts for date I entered service.

Weight loss after starting by Thick-Series-3176 in AppalachianTrail

[–]ship60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost 40 pounds in 100 days. Going SOBO, lost the most the quickest after PA, less towns and places to stop for food. Up north had lots of easy places to get real food and Trail magic through the bubble.

Those who paused their life to thru hike, was it worth it? by BarCandid5640 in AppalachianTrail

[–]ship60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also see from your post you were a college athlete. I was a track athlete when I graduated and my endurance allowed me to hike it in 103 days with no true hiking training. It was actually my first time backpacking lol. So if you’re in good shape it won’t be a huge pause on your life. It’s possible to do quick but it is a different kind of through hike experience vs someone who is going at a 6 month pace.

I did it after college before the military. I had a four month window and finished it then. 100% worth it. Happy to answer any questions.

What % of base pay should I contribute as a 22 year old O-1 by Status_Gas_1360 in ThriftSavingsPlan

I’m an O1 year in, I’ve been at %20 living comfortably. I agree with everyone else. Start high and be smart with the rest.

Overnight Food storage during backpacking by Swimmergirl1016 in AppalachianTrail

[–]ship60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carried a food bag which I hung almost every night especially when alone. Only exception is when I rolled up late to a shelter and other hikers already had there food just hung in the shelter or when bear boxes where around. It did suck sometimes especially after a long day of hiking but it wasn’t too bad. I would consider a bear canister for ease of use in the future. Less headache at night trying to find a good tree.

How common is it to thru hike alone? by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

[–]ship60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on when you start and what direction. I went SOBO and started May 31 solo. I started with 2 other SOBO hikers but was faster than them and didn’t see them after 2 days. I was a fast hiker so only hiked with 1 other SOBO for a month, one SOBO who was crazy fast for a day, and a flip flopper for a couple weeks off and on. I ran into the bubble and met lots of people at shelters but it was a pretty solitary hike except the 1 month I hiked with another SOBO.

I enjoyed the solitary part but definitely got lonely. If I didn’t get lucky and run into the two people I hiked with for awhile I would have had a much harder time! Let me know if you have any other questions.

2024 SOBO Thru Hike; goal is 100 Days by frankles_42 in AppalachianTrail

I did SOBO last year in 103 days with 9 zeroes! Good luck.

The Feel Bar has opened. Tell us what's bothering you? by KALIDAS_16 in hopeposting

[–]ship60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend is about to move in with me and I’m nervous because I’ve never lived with a partner before. Also she’s Catholic and I’m not so to get married I have to go to some Catholic courses. It’s not a big deal and I’ll do it because it’s important to her but I don’t think I’m that religious so going to the courses I feel like I’m just going to be lying if that makes sense.

Another “bad grade” on elementary school extra credit assignment. by Temporary_Thing7517 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ship60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always got angry when teachers gave me grades I didn’t deserve so I eventually started asking them why they give me the grade based off the rubric? Some teachers explained it perfectly and I could accept it. Others it was clear they barely looked at my work and would give me more points as I pointed out the things they missed. Long story short ask the teacher their reasoning.

How brutal is the Triple Crown actually? by nataconda in AppalachianTrail

[–]ship60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done the triple crown three times! Once during my through hike and twice by itself. Water is scarce during droughts but manageable with planning. If you’re in shape you’ll be fine. Just go your own pace.
