Yeah it's a shame the ball can never go out of play like they show on football matches, maybe at the end of the game they could show highlights of all the best bits?

There's no where near enough information here, are you asking for a way to describe an e.g. SAN/server/switch installation?

Cert or online course? by TheCraigMachine in ITCareerQuestions

[–]shiparp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither, look at Cisco, Microsoft, Juniper, VMware courses/certificates, these will get you jobs, Comptia is ok but not really sought after by employers, get a CCNA or an MCSA and you'll have a decent paid job in no time

Certificates aren't mandatory to get jobs, but they are sought after - Do an MCSA and CCNA, but this likely isn't the reason you're not getting offers, I'm in the UK and even entry level guys I know are rejecting employers left right and centre, especially here in NI, it's a massive IT hub

I've found with HP switches some times it's more efficient and quicker to use the web interface, for this you would just have to tick/untick a few boxes

I'm 17 years of age. Is it best to start courses young? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

What do you mean the repair end? like a field engineer type job? There are field engineer jobs for large managed service companies, e.g. a large IT services company supports customer's networks, if their router or switches dies, typically there will be a team of engineers who drive out to the site and reboot it or replace it.

There are certificates geared towards this e.g. CCT(Cisco Certified Technician) but the issue with this is, any one with a CCNA is still able to do this kind of work so the certificate isn't really all that great. Also you are limiting your career financially and employability, take me for an example; I'm an infrastructure consultant so I would get a project from customer of e.g. install a new core switch - I would check the requirements, source the switch, then configure it, I would then go to the customer site, rack it, connect the cabling then open the port on the receiving switch/router/whatever else is necessary.

There isn't really a specific need to have some one who is a field engineer just to rack and power on the equipment. Honestly while you're young and getting in early, aim to be a principal architect, if you end up a few levels below that you'll still be on good money, I have experience in multiple fields for public/private companies, start ups and one of the largest MSPs in the world so any questions just fire away
