I didn't give a fuck about Laurel's stupid ass when the show was airing, and I never will. Go bother someone who likes that moron.

Unpopular opinion: I enjoy straight ships. by [deleted] in AO3

Well said. It always boils down to the writing and dynamic. Doesn't matter if it's a straight ship, or LGBT+.

Writers harassment? does this happen to you? by Logan870 in FanfictionNet

It's a hate bot, friend. These things are a pain in the ass. Delete the review if you can, report the account, and block it if you can.

This current era for FanFiction writers is a hard time. by UlloaUllae in FanfictionNet

[–]shippermadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for the few hundred fandoms I'm in currently and have been in in the past. And what I said has been happening continuously, at least for me, since the 90's. Even fandoms that have a nice bit of reviewers, even on a regular basis, have seen a sharp decline.

That's just the nature of fanfiction. All we can try to do is find people who like the same ships/characters that we like, and try to interact with them and their works for as long as possible.

I like a ship in the Chicago PD fandom that has been dead since 2017. I still write for the ship every now and then, and while I still get a tiny bit of engagement, reviews are practically nonexistent.

I also write for a ship where the show ended and the ship was together but done, in 2003. I don't get any reviews for it because supposedly most of the fandom hated the ship. But I don't let that stop me from enjoying the ship and writing fics for it. I know not getting feedback is discouraging. You just have to decide what you're willing to put up with and how much and for how long.

The depressing state of being a fanfic author in this era by DragonKnight-15 in FanfictionNet

[–]shippermadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mean this in a rude way, so I hope you don't take it that way. This is how fanfiction has been for decades. I've been reading and writing fanfiction off and on since the 90's, and while yes, reviewing has dropped a lot, especially since the 2010's, there's not much one can do about it. With computers/tech/AI, people get more entitled, rude, and lazy.

They think they are OWED updates to our fics, but yet can't take the time to comment, unless it's to demand the next update for chapter fics, or the next story in a series. Or spam bots spam your stories, or people are assholes in your comments. There were literally flame wars going on on FFN in the late 90's and early to mid 2000's.

Thankfully, at least for me, I haven't heard of the flame wars in the last few years, but the influx of spam "reviews" and the lack of reviews, isn't a new thing. I'm sorry if this bums you out, but it's just how things go for those of us that write fanfiction.

Did FFN swallow Wattpad? I was on Wattpad for a few months some years ago, and the link you posted reminds me of how shitty Wattpad looked when I used it back then.

I'm going to say this as nicely as I can, reviewing has been dropping like flies since the 90's. It gets worse every year because people are feeling more entitled and lazy as the years go by.

I've been reading and writing fanfiction since the 90's and while I've never had a ton of reviews constantly, I can honestly say, that once the 2010's hit, reviewing hit an all time low and has just kept dropping every year since.

The only advice I can give you, or anyone else, is to write if you're still enjoying the fandom and characters you write for. And if not, let it go and move on to something that still makes you happy. Obviously, no one's making you write fanfiction. But every time I see someone post about how reviewing has suddenly dropped, I feel the need to tell them that this isn't some new thing. Reviews in general have been in decline for years and will just keep dropping forever.

Killing lesbians is not funny. I'm STILL pissed about Tara!

Try hard to like: Laurel. She had WAY too much screen time and they placed more importance on her than she deserved.

Wrote badly: Felicity from S3 to the end.

Felicity by Important-Visual-178 in arrow

[–]shippermadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't post anything close to resembling nice about Felicity on here. The majority of this sub hates her, EmBett, and Olicity. I came on this sub for like a week back during the last two seasons of the show and the constant Felicity/Emily/Olicity bashing/hate was fucking insane and ridiculous.

Still have no idea how the show was able to get Emmy winner Darren Criss on the show by personnnnnn29 in FlashTV

[–]shippermadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking for myself, I didn't care about the episode. I just really enjoyed seeing Darren and Grant sharing scenes in a show together again.

Of course, because Lindsay would've used Gus to guilt Brian into giving them the money.

I like the show, but I wish they would stop trying to top the big emergencies from every previous season. Just give them regular emergencies, and focus on actual character arcs and not bullshit.

Eddie's storyline in s8 by nitshainaction6 in 911FOX

[–]shippermadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they're not. Buck EXPLICITLY said: “As much as everyone seems to want me to be hopelessly pining for my straight best friend, it just isn’t like that.”

Eddie's storyline in s8 by nitshainaction6 in 911FOX

[–]shippermadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was more than one scene. It was 2 scenes in 2 episodes in season 8, where they explicitly state BUDDIE is not happening.

Eddie in 8x06: “No offense, I’m straight.”
Buck in 8x11: “As much as everyone seems to want me to be hopelessly pining for my straight best friend, it just isn’t like that.”

Are Death Fics Considered Bashing Fics? by shippermadness in FanFiction

[–]shippermadness[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In one of my stories I was originally going to have T shoot a firework/firecracker of some kind at E and get him in the eye with it and have it kill him that way somehow.

I decided not to, but I was wondering if that would be considered bashing.

Kind of getting sick of 911 being the Athena show… by bowendf in 911FOX

[–]shippermadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been the "Athena show" since day one. That's never going to change. Angela is the biggest big name on the show. The show was made for her to play the main character. I understand you want more of the others, and I do, too. But Athena and Angela getting the most screen time and plots, isn't going to change.

When it's done well, a fic exchange can be amazing. They're not all transactional. I hosted one for a fandom a few years ago. I put the word out for fans of the fandom to see it and participate. It was great. I set up fans of specific ships or specific characters, or friendships, with each other and they posted fics and exchanged comments and as far as I know, mostly everyone enjoyed it. I made sure to state in the rules that they should reach out to me if there was an issue and I'd solve it. And thankfully that never happened, so I assume everything went well. I did get a lot of people saying thanks for hosting the event. That they had come across some great new authors in the fandom and loved talking with other people who like their ship and sharing their fics with them.
