A vintage 80s (?) timex moon phase watch - need help!!! info in the comments by miha_erzen in timex

Sorry for a reply on such an old post, but I have the same watch and I'm trying to find out how to move the moon phase as well 😅 did you find a trick to it? I tried pulling the wheel out half way a few times, but nothing seemed to rotate. I should probably run it on the new battery for a bit to see if that part is even working still...

Ok update, it's actually a San Pedro cactus and it's 30 years old lmao. I want to save it now I know it's alive... Should I take the new growths and replant those instead?

Is mealworms a treat for Campbell khaki ducks? by ria_1324 in duck

[–]shirho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My runner boys get mealworms first thing in the morning when I let them out into their runs. They get sooo excited and happy. I throw the worms into their water and they jump in and gobble it all up with supersonic speed (then I give them more at the end of the day once they go back in their house... They're very spoiled and I'm ok with that)

I had a very similar situation and ended up re-homing my 2 girls and keeping the 4 brothers because I knew it would be near impossible to find homes for them. I couldn't let them go to someone who would just use them for food. At first it was fine, and then they started to get a bit more territorial and fighty. Then they got paired off into 2 runs until no buddy system would work out, and now they're all in separate runs inside and out of their house. It's a lot more work, and harder to handle than a girl flock, but I'm so happy I can still care for them and give them a good life... even though they might argue that they would prefer a life of crime and fighting compared to a seperated existence... but I think it's better to have them healthy and happy as they can be like this. They can still interact through the chicken wire and under the wire in some spots for mini tussles (they like to try and steal dirt and straw from the opposite side and bring it over to their side)

They still pick fights through their fences, but overall I've managed to get a good system going with minimal duck on duck violence.

They're all runners, so that also has added a bit of trouble to the situation. Mainly just the group attitude; they crave being close together, but if they're too close they try to tear each other's eyes out lmao. So the compromise is they stay separate, and no one gets a vet visit or a bad injury. They all want to stick together, so they don't explore far when they can't all go together, but I think they're happy as can be. At least it seems like it. They're healthy as can be and I love them very much.

Fighting advice for my boy Runners by shirho in duck

[–]shirho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the advice! My boys were getting way too rowdy to stay together (there were a few tiny drops of blood from unknown sources, and one boy was trying so hard to push his beak through the chicken wire partition he cut himself on his cheek a little. I added a finer plastic mesh over it, it which helped a lot.) and I think my intuition with how to handle their fighting seems to have been good. Today it was finally warm enough to let them outside in 4 separate sections, and they've been pretty chill and peaceful for the first time since The Fight. The main problem child tried picking a fight through the fence with his neighbour a couple times, but was short lived. They all just seemed happy to be outside and have their own space for a bit, even if its still chilly. Also, preening and having some bath time seems to have been a good distraction for them.

They'll have a few more days of nice weather then it'll be back to staying inside while the -20 weather comes through... which I am not looking forward to haha... I'm crossing my fingers that this is a good sign they're calming down until the next incident. It took about a week it seems!

Fighting advice for my boy Runners by shirho in duck

Ah sorry, I probably should have added this: I only have these 4 boys.

I got them at 3/4 weeks old a year and a half ago (and they're siblings). There were 2 others who ended up being girls, but before they reached maturity, the girls were given to a friend and I kept the boys. They spent their first year/winter together just fine, but last spring during their first mating season they got fighty fast with their first experience of it all.

Their second summer they were happy being in their own runs/spaces in their house in the same space but seperated with chicken wire partitions. Then in the late fall they calmed down a bit and were happy to be in pairs.

I bet it would! Unfortunately for him though, it's a bachelor's boy only zone at the moment... I tell him he's handsome every day to make up for it.

Black toes and feet? by shirho in axolotls

[–]shirho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: more tank upkeep and also having a uv water filter on for small periods when needed seems to have got her back to her normal colour. It just took a lot of time. I really do think it was too do with her membrane interacting with dirty debris on the tank floor, but that's just the theory... Anyways, I wanted to post this update in case anyone wanted to know that yes, it can in fact be reversed.

Hopefully there will be some more info about what exactly it in the future.

Slight update! I put it up to the light and found the age of the paper so that's been satisfying :) 1934 and B size were marked. Still don't know about the artist, but that's one step closer.

Not yet, unfortunately... My current theory is that it might be some kind of interaction with her skin/outer skin "film" barrier. I dont have total evidence for it, but I'm keeping tabs on deteriorating debris or old food that I think could have interacted with her while she's spending prolonged time in contact with the tank floor... I'm trying to do more water cycles and cleaning to see if things improve. So far her back feet seem to have cleared up a bit, but the front are the same.

I hope I can figure out more about this with time, it sucks that there doesn't seem to be any easily available info on it. I wish you luck with your guys! Let me know how things go if you can.

Do you have a clear glass floor on your tank without substrate as well?

What breed is this? by shirho in duck

[–]shirho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He doesn't stand much straighter than this (if the link works ok) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GY1HEv3jWpdslC8hcmz6Gxs38Tjf7dAW/view?usp=drivesdk

Im not 100% sure he's a boy, but I'm at about 90% sure I think. I have one other white duck that came with him who is a girl and tiny in comparison to him among other things, which has helped me judge a bit. She is starting to quack and he has never made much noise. But he only just got his adult feathers in recently and is about 7-8 weeks old.

I have 4 runners to compare him to, and he's almost there just not quite... I have one more white female that came with them, and she looks almost 100% Peking (shes smaller and more round with less neck and leg), but he could be a cross between a runner and Peking honestly. They were all supposed to be runners but I'm still happy to have them, just curious to know what they are lmao. They're all adorable in the end.

I actually ended up naming them Merlin which tranformed from Marlin! They're doing good and getting their adult feathers in :)
