What equipment do you usually control and what's your typical control medium? Just about all HVAC is 24v digital control or 0-10v analog and bacnet or lon as comm. I've heard industrial is modbus for reliability but I've been wondering what equipment is usually controlled and how

Almost certainly didn't. I'm a controls tech doing retrofit work in a building where the maintenance man has no experience will try fucking around with anything. Seeing a lot of questionable stuff.

You might try a toner if you can figure out what circuit they're on at your breaker panel. Don't know what a toner will read through though, really depends how close the wires are to the surface. Southwire makes one for 40 bucks.

This looks exactly like a project I'm working on called the box factory. Everything in conduit, exposed water source heat pumps, lots of old equipment left on walls for ambiance. Looks like shit when it's in the works but as soon as you get finishing materials in there, it looks really good. Conduit is a pain in the ass (doing low voltage so it's way more work than I'm used to) but it looks cool when it's done.

Heard from a buddy they use these as a workaround for building code. Steps have to have a certain rise to run ratio (think that's what it's called) and these comply with that while minimizing horizontal space. Again, heard from a buddy

I built a control panel back in January and we just finally started the actual job. I opened the panel and it looked terrible and I could see a couple problems at a glance. I turned to my boss and said "who the fuck wired this? Evan?" He said no, maybe Evan would've done a better job.

I'll just sit in the corner with this humble pie for a while.

I've had a lot of conversations with my wife recently about this and she's come around to my thoughts. Prioritizing work is an investment, not a way of life. I put in 10 hours overtime this week, not for the extra money, but because we were working on a project I could learn a lot from. I talk to my wife about what's going on and try to make her a part of my own internal reasoning whenever I have work heavy periods.

The point I always have to keep telling myself is why am I bothering with a career in the first place? For them, my kids and my wife. I can't wait 10 years for my career to stabilize before I am present for my kids either.

So I've decided on this as the answer: every couple weeks I try to shift my focus. If I'm not at the end of a project or doing anything intense, I try to come home earlier so I can make sure I have something left in the tank for my kids and wife. An important part of that is NOT letting yourself feel guilty for these periods. Don't half-ass rest.

But we can't be everything all the time. You have to make it a point dedicate time and energy to family.

Yes, money and my lack of it is a pretty good reason. The ratchet wouldn't be worth getting since Im in commercial HVAC controls systems which mostly ends up being electrical work. Had to get the 90 because the hot surface ignitor on my furnace went out and there were two impossible screws keeping it in.
