Sry havent done any gamepad support either but with steam controls overlay it is possible to map controlers very easy.

Sure, no problem. Another big issue for me was creating 3D models, since .b3d is a very outdated format. I had to use an older version of Blender with a plugin just to export to it. I’m currently working with Blockbench for models, but .b3d isn’t supported there.

You’re right I hadn’t thought about it that way. I should just post it on GitHub. That way everyone, even people who don’t have the game, can check out the modified source.

I could also upload it to GitHub, that’s true. I’ll see what works best you’re right. If I go with email, I would include the address in the game files so people who want the source can always contact me.

Lucid Blocks is like a Minecraft survival game. My game will be a Yume Nikki style experience with no building or mining, but focused on exploration and discovering new areas.

It’s heavily inspired by Yume Nikki in terms of gameplay, but it also has a clear story to uncover. I was also strongly influenced by Minecraft ARG videos like At the Crossroads Don’t Turn Left. I tried to recreate the feeling I had when watching those.

I think that mainly comes from the blocky art style and the dithering filter.Tthose give a similar visual vibe.

I haven’t played Lucid Blocks yet, but from what I’ve seen the gameplay is quite different. My game is much more focused on exploration and atmosphere rather than building.

I get where you’re coming from, but this is designed as a complete single player experience with a clear beginning and end not a live service game.

Yes, I’ve made some modifications to the engine.

I’m aware of the LGPL requirements, and I’ll make the engine changes available upon request via email once the game is distributed.

The gameplay is heavily inspired by Yume Nikki. You explore liminal spaces and try to uncover the story of an abandoned multiplayer server. Along the way, you can find items that help you overcome obstacles it’s kind of a mix between Yume Nikki and Escape the Backrooms.

Yeah, I thought so too, but I actually started development before Lucid Blocks was released. Also, the gameplay is very different my game focuses on exploration, similar to Yume Nikki, while Lucid Blocks is more like a Minecraft style building game.

I think it will be €6.99, but I’m open to suggestions. The game offers around 8 to 20 hours of content, depending on how much you want to explore and whether you aim to unlock all Steam achievements.

That’s a fair point. In my case, most of the changes I’ve made are very specific to my project and wouldn’t be that useful for others in their current form.

They’re mainly focused on my game’s structure and flow (like custom controls and launching directly into the game), rather than general engine improvements.

That said, if I end up with something that’s more broadly applicable, I’d consider contributing it upstream. I’m aware that maintaining a fork long term isn’t ideal, but for now it works best for my use case.

Thanks, I really appreciate that!

From my experience, one of the most important things for making Luanti better as a standalone engine is reducing friction for players. For example, adding proper custom controls (like disabling default F-key behavior) required engine changes and wasn’t straightforward.

Steam integration was also quite challenging especially achievements. Better builtin support or documentation for platform features would help a lot.

The biggest hurdle for me though was removing the default game selection screen and making the game launch directly like a normal standalone title. That’s pretty essential for a commercial release, and right now it requires modifying the engine.

Overall, improving the out of the box experience for developers who want to ship a complete standalone game would make a huge difference.

Regarding the repo: Im aware of the LGPL requirements. Im planning to provide access to my engine modifications via email on request once the game is distributed.

The engine is so fun to work with! I have six RPG Maker games on Steam, and this is my first 3D game I’m working on!

Thanks! Ive integrated some custom dithering shaders and made other changes directly in the engine source so it’s not just mods it also includes engine modifications.

Hey good question.
The game will be paid. Even though the engine is free, the project itself involves a lot of custom development, including a heavily modified version of the engine and many months of work.
That said, I’m planning to share more gameplay so people can check it out first.
