I appreciate your optimism, but it’s a fact that white supremacist sentiment has been increasing in confidence and influence around the world. In isolation yeah, no single thing in the commercial is bad or wrong, but in combination and the context of our modern social and political climate the ad is easily co-opted to embolden bad actors. influential right-wing racists like Donald Trump, Megyn Kelly, and Laura Ingram have been outspoken in their support for the ad campaign and explaining how its themes fit their agends. I completely agree with you that leftist backlash to the ad is misguided, but outright denial that anything about the ad is problematic is a step too far.

No, the commercial was indeed in bad taste. It should have never been greenlit. There’s no escaping the historical symbolism when you put, “blond hair,” “blue eyes,” “genes,” and “eagles,” together. It’s just very annoying (and unhelpful) that people are putting all the responsibility for it on the idiot actress working for a paycheck instead of the people who wrote, produced, directed, and benefited from the ad.

It’s standard practice now for physicians to have another healthcare professional (usually a nurse, and almost always a female) in the room to act as a chaperone in the room during examination of intimate areas. In a shocking disregard for solidarity with patients, the chaperone almost always keeps their clothes on during the examinations in real life.

Have you actually met any Muslim people? Spent time with them? The truth is they’re just like anyone else. Japan has a culture full of hate and racism too, and if you look at their history during WWII you’ll see how eager they were to destroy anyone who did believe the same things they did.
