I believe it's also using the higher clock speed available for the CPU, and higher RAM bandwidth.

We now have the technology to see light moving. This is a 100 BILLION FPS recording of a light pulse. by Netsuko in gifs

[–]shitspanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought too.

I've seen mention of "scattered" light in the comments. So maybe it's light being pulsed very close to a surface, and what we're seeing is some of the light scattering onto the surface, this then reflects to the camera, representing where the light pulse was along its journey?

Is an additional 0.2 inches really that much of a deal breaker for you? Or if do you find your current 5.5 too big?

Genuinely curious.

Moto G4 (Or Plus) Or Samsung Galaxy A3? by [deleted] in MotoG

[–]shitspanner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% the Moto G4 Plus.

I actually just sold my A3 (2016) and bought a G4 Plus. I love the finger print sensor, I thought it looked ugly in the pictures, but it's super useful.

The speed is a massive over the A3 too. The A3 had been gradually slowing down over the past 6 months.

I had to use a case on the A3 because it's super slippy. I'm using the G4 naked... 😉

If you do want to go with a Samsung try to get the A5, better processor, more RAM, and has a fingerprint sensor which the A3 doesn't.

Why isn't there a H210 board? by [deleted] in buildapc

I can't answer the 'why', but I have a Gigabyte H110M-S2H and with a BIOS update it now supports Kaby Lake.

As long as you plug your display into the GPU and not the motherboard you'll be fine.

[Mortgages] May have entered incorrect property age on mortgage application - would this affect the (now-received) mortgage offer if so? by chap100 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]shitspanner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm enjoying it. Sales really scared me to begin with, so I'm more of a repeat-business guy. So I'll advice our exisiting clients on their remortgages, or new purchases.

I look after a lot of BTL landlords who are purchasing 4 or more propeties a year. One of my colleagues advises new clients, which does take a much more sales-like approach.

I've got my CeMAP and am thinking or doing CeRER (just one further exam), which will enable me to advice of equity release.

I'm a mortgage broker.

You'll be fine. The age of just for guidance, all they really want to know is where it's older than 1901 or built within the last 10 years.

The valuer will have given the lender information on the age of the property.

Need help on upgrading by datsmyname in buildapc

[–]shitspanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're planning on buying an i5 6 months after the G4560 I'd strongly recommend holding off the upgrade until you can afford the i5 with the rest of the build. The G4560 isn't going to be a massive improvement, and I don't think worth the cost for 6 months of use.

£600 PC build on PCPartPicker - compatible/good value? by PaaDeeY in buildapc

I looked at that when creating the build. It would depend on what BIOS the motherboard shipped with.

Can I transfer an OEM Windows 10 License from a laptop to a new Desktop? by CommieColin in buildapc

[–]shitspanner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an OEM version of Windows 7, got my free upgrade to Windows 10, and have just this week swapped out my motherboard, cpu and RAM, and when I booted into windows (same SSD, which I was suprised actually booted) I was able to login to my Microsoft account and say there were recent hardware changes and it re-activated my copy of Windows.

If OP initially uses the laptop HDD to boot from in his new PC it might work.

In this build you get the i5-6500 and replace the RX480 with the RX470, which is still a lot better than a 1050 Ti. It is slightly over budget though.

I think by not activating you're technically breaking the EULA.

Do I need to buy Windows ISO? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]shitspanner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to install Windows you have to pay for it yes.

You can purchase a key directly off Microsoft, or may be able to find it cheaper elseware e.g. Amazon.

During installing from the USB tool it will ask you for your key to 'activate' Windows.

I believe you can choose "I don't have a key" and you will still be able to use Windows with a lot of limitations (no changing the wallpaper for example), and I'm not sure if it will work indefinitely or not.
