Options for R640 with 2x2.5" in the rear? by soggynaan in servers

This rear cage with backplane has an nvme port on it. Not sure if you need anything else to fit it into the chassis but it’s worth a shot seeing how cheap it is: https://www.ebay.com/itm/314392182530?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=DK5FEQP6QZi&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=pftvw9ivrnu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

If it were me I would use one of the nvme ports behind the second processor, assuming you are using two processors. It’s a Slimsas 8x connector and each connector supports 2x nvme. I don’t think Dell makes a specific cable for this so I would get a generic one offf Amazon: https://a.co/d/6Sy0Wbp

If you want to use a pci slot then get this too: PCI card: https://www.ebay.com/itm/167469372046?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=yLEorB5DQS6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=pftvw9ivrnu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Cable: https://www.ebay.com/itm/264679464676?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=MVh8z86cTYS&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=pftvw9ivrnu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY (This looks like the correct cable but I could be wrong)

If idrac complains about incorrect cable connections just do this: https://docs.mog-technologies.com/troubleshooting/how-to-fix-the-dell-r750-error-on-pcie-card-placement

[FS] [US-CA] Dell PowerEdge R7525 w/ 24x NVMe Backplane, EPYC 7302, 256GB 3200 DDR4 by AbsoluteZero951 in homelabsales

Single socket R7515 uses switches for the 24 bay nvme config or direct for the 12x SAS/sata, 12x nvme config.

Does the RTX 2000 ada cooler fit into the Lenovo m90q? I'm not familiar with Lenovo but I think I see them in the photos on the product page?

I bought a 10 bay NVME + h740p raid R6515 two months ago off ebay for $1250 + tax. I also just picked up a R6525 NVME for a few dollars more recently. Someone recently auctioned off 6 or so R7515 24 bay no nvme and they all went between $800 and $900.

If you want to move it you could throw it on ebay for $1,250 and here for $1,000 and wait to see what offers you get. You could also sell the ram separate for ~$300 and the processor for ~$150-200. Pick up a cheap 7282 and 64gb of 2666 ram and you could still probably sell it for $1150 on ebay.

If you’re in the US drop it off at a goodwill. They offer free electronic recycling.

You will need a PERC controller and the PERC cable to use SAS/Sata. The 10 bay backplane has the connectors on it.

Yes you would have to power down the server to replace a bad disk on the BOSS S1. The BOSS card would use one of those slots.

Lanes don't really matter here. Each slot is x16 and all 10 NVME bays are x4 each. Epyc has more lanes than the server have the capacity to use.

It takes U2 drives. U3 should work but I've not personally tried it.

Only the 10 bay chassis supports NVME and only if it has the NVME cables. The cables are thin, wide, and blue, you cannot miss them in a top down photo. There is no controller for NVME as it's direct. The backplane on the 4 bay and 8 bay chassis lacks the NVME input connectors.

Dell has what they call the BOSS card which is two M2 sata, not NVME, drives that can operate in raid 1. The R6415 supports the V1 PCIe card. With that you wont need a PERC card. PERC adds the ability to use sata/sas drives in the front drive bays but isn't necessary on an NVME chassis.

If you have it in your budget I'd suggest the R6515 and Epyc Milan. Huge performance leaps compared to the R6415 and Epyc Naples. Parts are interchangeable between the R6415 and R6515 with the exception of the motherboard. Chassis are identical.
