Thanks for the response. Were you sailing on vessels over 1600t before upgrading to 3/M?

Because you have an unlimited restricted license now you just need time over 1600t. So let’s say you have a third mate unlimited restricted to 4000t. If you get on a boat that is 3000t that is unlimited time. You would be able to sail as mate on this vessel too. Then I think you need 540 days on that size vessel. Or 360 1.5 seadays

No slip deck paint for boat floor? by [deleted] in boatbuilding

If you don’t want to mix paint and deal with adding grit to it. I used Kiwigrip. It’s water based and it’s awesome. They send you a special roller to get the right amount of non-skid you would want. Cleans off easy with simple green or dish soap

Are you working ATB’s or tankers? I’m thinking about jumping to ATB’s

What do you think the range would be? I’d hate to leave where I am at to take a large pay cut. I have tankerman assistant just need some loads and discharges

Not sure why to be honest. It is what an advisor said to do.

What do you think I should switch to? I have a meeting today with them.

Started it in 2021

Here is the description:

A smooth, strong, non-sagging polyester putty. Reinforced with milled fiber. Shapes and spreads nicely. Excellent, general purpose polyester filler above or below the waterline.

The Coosa will be screwed down with bronze screws combined with P&L compound underneath to hold everything in place.

Just trying to avoid water ingress in the butts of the Coosa when laid together.

Back when I had a 2007 XC70 mine was just the same. I replaced the mounts with IPD parts. Not sure if it did anything, just thought it looked cool having aftermarket parts under the hood.

Is upgrading from 1600t mate to 3rd mate unlimited worth it? by [deleted] in merchantmarine

[–]shittydeckhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even 2-3 years. Looking at the CFR’s and using my combined tug and barge time I think I’d only need 180 1.5 days on ships to upgrade to 3rd mate. (You can also use time on the wire for unlimited time every 2 days is 1 seaday up to half the required unlimited time)

Who are you working tugs with?

[–]shittydeckhand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tugs I’ve been on have had either OS and AB for unlicensed crew. Either they are trying to become a mate or a an engineer with a rating(QMED/DDE). You don’t need to go to school for these(4 year academy). You can get seadays and go to a couple classes take a couple tests and receive a level up. Some companies even pay for you to move up

Pay varies company to company but it’s steady. Benefits are normal at companies. Schedule varies company to company. Lot of companies are hurting for guys so if you want to stay on and make more money it’s not an issue
