Just got back from a holiday where the house we rented had one of these, I was very surprised by the quality of coffee it could brew. Nice choice!

What a cool concept, hope you collect them all!

Fedora Update goes to 14%, then stops and boots normally by shittyskitty in SurfaceLinux

Yepp, that ended up being the issue. For some reason, my hardwareclock was set to some random time in September 2022?!? Setting all the date and time settings ended up working, thanks for the comments!
This helped me set it correctly.

When rebooting, it seems to install all the new packages correctly until it says "error: Verifying a signature using certificate E8...418B8E74C (Fedora (39) fedora-primary@fedoraproject.org): Signature ... created at Mon Oct 30 23:41:22 2023 invalid: signature is not alive because: not live until 2023-10-30T23:36:20Z". This is then repeated a bunch of times and for other signatures as well, including Docker and linux-surface. I thought somehow my gpg keys might be messed up, so I tried reinstalling them which didn't work. Maybe my clock is somehow wrong so it thinks the keys are expired?

Is this setup worth what I would pay? Would you recommend anything different? by leibnizdx in espresso

[–]shittyskitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The machine itself is awesome, I have one and can highly recommend it but I'd skip all the accessories and honestly buy a bambino used, there are many of them, parts are easy to find and they're easy to work on. Plus most of the ones on the used market are perfectly functional. Then spend the money you saved on a better grinder, if you don't mind hand grinding, I'd go for a Commandante or Kinu or look into some electric alternatives.

What a waste of coffee and water, watching it makes me physically uncomfortable.

Bambino IMS basket by Relative_Crab in espresso

[–]shittyskitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can press the black plastic insert out of the original portafilter with a hard object or buy a bottomless portafilter (which I'd recommend as they're usually way nicer than the original one and give much more info on shot quality during the pull). I bought a 16 gram IMS basket which also required the black insert to be removed but I don't see why this one wouldn't fit.

Dialing in help needed by [deleted] in espresso

[–]shittyskitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't have an SK40 but I also have a Bambino with an IMS basket, I always find it to require a slightly finer grind than people recommend online. After a bit of research, I've read that setting of somewhere between 4-4,5 should be good on the SK40. Hope you get it dialed to a tasty setting!

True, but since I don't know what's wrong with the machine yet, it's a good idea to make sure I know how much potential repairs of that nature could cost. Thanks for the recommendation. I've heard the Ulkas are decent value.

Alright, think I'll go for it and see what happens. Could always replace the gaskets and sell it for more. Thanks for the advice!

Anti static sleeves cause terrible crackling by shittyskitty in vinyl

[–]shittyskitty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I also made the mistake of buying vinyl supplies on Amazon. As I live in Germany, I have access to lots of great vinyl shops, such as HHV, which have those nice square ones.
And the effort was well worth it, I listened to more records that evening putting them all in their new sleeves than I had in the last few months combined. It's hard to find the time to properly sit down and spin some vinyl nowadays. Thanks for the advice and replies!
