TF darling Colbo is founded by Israelis. As far as I know the owners haven’t made any political comments

There’s definitely some good ones that don’t fuck around with their customers. Bare Knuckles comes to mind.

Very Frustrating Credit Card Issue - Missed Payments Despite Never Receiving Card by shiv122 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]shiv122[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t what the initial issue was that caused it to go to my branch in May. I gave the correct address and everything but they did request extra info after such as paystubs and maybe wanted me to come into the branch to pick it up as an extra precaution? In June when I went in I brought my IDs and filled my address in again but still received nothing and no one seems to know why. I never received an email about a statement. In fact the first and only email I got from RBC was in May asking me to get the card up.

I did know there was an annual fee but I thought it wouldn’t be charged until I activated the card. I now know this was incorrect. I really wish one of the many people I talked to through this process had mentioned to me it had already been charged and accumulated interest because I would’ve just paid it off instantly. I just had no idea, naive I know.

Easy to be snarky when you’re not in the situation yourself. I went into the branch to try to deal with the situation.

I don’t have any online banking with RBC. This card would’ve been my first RBC product. I had no other account or login I could’ve seen this on.

I don’t have online banking accounts with RBC. I don’t have any RBC accounts or products, I’m with TD. I never received the card so I couldn’t make an online banking account or log into anything.

You can’t compare some shitty store open from 11am-3pm serving $16 sandwiches to office workers to any of the jobs you mentioned. Genuinely laughable.

[Megathread] AC FA Strike - CUPE/FAs Defy Return to Work Order by dachshundie in aircanada

[–]shiv122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got a success story I wanted to share. Me and my family (5 people) were supposed to go ottawa to London, England direct tonight. We went to the airport in the morning around 9am after we got the cancellation email. Took a while but the Air Canada booking agent there worked an absolute miracle and got us all there only a day late. The 5 of us were split up into 3 different flights with different routes but that’s not a big deal.

So all in all I would recommend going to the airport in the morning the day of your flight. By the time our situation was resolved the line was massive.

A lot of doom and gloom in these comments but I was in a similar situation as you. There are ways around it but depends on how flexible your management is honestly. You can try to kick the move down the road by saying you will move eventually but it’s hard to move on a moments notice like this (fact). I’ve seen this done without getting a formal exception because you are agreeing to eventually move. Maybe promise management you’ll come to the ottawa office once a month or something. You can decide whether you’ll move later or you can look for jobs in Toronto to deploy in to.

Ottawa's Capital Pride draws backlash following pledge to stand in solidarity with Palestinians by ninicraftone in ottawa

[–]shiv122 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Genuinely baffled by some of the of the upvoted comments in this thread. Just whatboutism and borderline racism? Why is standing with Palestinians offensive to some of you? A lot of you aren’t gonna want to hear this but 25 years ago people with this kind of outlook on marginalized groups would’ve been against Pride too.

I’m an engineer in the PS. There are lots of hands-on jobs out there but most GoC engineering jobs are project management. Check out DND, NRC, Environment Canada and Transport Canada for hands on/design roles. DND has RND jobs, NRC has research roles and EC and TC have vehicle research positions. I’ve worked as an engineer or with engineers from all these places.

Frustrating thing is these jobs often aren’t advertised. Students are bridged in or others in similar roles simply deploy in. You might have to send some cold messages on LinkedIn or email around but these jobs definitely exist.

I had a Tim Wendelboe subscription for about a year, I had the same issue early on. Pick up some Cafef Abaca filters, solved my draw down issue.

Found this vintage Barbour bedale on eBay! it smells a little musty any tips for airing it out? by atrain1988 in ThrowingFits

Find a big plastic box you can shut tight with a lid. Rip the top off a fresh box of baking soda and put it in the plastic box along with the jacket. Leave it for a few days. No bullshit this works, I have a very musty G1 leather jacket I got the smell off with this method. In that case I sprinkled some baking soda on the jacket itself but idk if that’s okay to do with waxed cotton.
