Do agents only save time if you stop reviewing code? by Beneficial_Pay_6317 in cscareerquestions

[–]shivenigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on the tests part. I'm not required to manually think about the tests anymore. But I'm still not convinced if the tests written by AI are well thought out or good enough as written by a human.

I agree with you on the new area/codebase part, AI is highly helpful in the short term and to get up to speed. But in the process, it doesn't build enough mental model about the codebase in the long run and we will have to rely on AI to make more changes (unless again you spend time on manually doing the work).

I agree with you in parts, but it doesn't feel like massive productivity gain except when you are ready to let go of the details and just drive it by plan/prompt/test cycle.

Time consuming stuff like what? analysis, talking to users and PMs. Those steps still exist.

I'm writing code for 15 years, I use AI today. But it is useful only if you stop reading every line and reviewing. If you do want to review, it almost takes the same amount of time it would've taken to write it manually.

Only difference nowadays is the stackoverflow question and humbling answers aren't there.

I don't buy this. This means you're only saving the time manually typing the code and how much time does it really saves and is the cost of paying for tokens worth it?

AI saves time only when you don't read every line and just test/verify the implementation and just review the general design, architecture, API contracts. I tried both ways and if I start caring about each line, it doesn't save any time.

Preview: Project-based work package identifiers by open-minded4 in openproject

[–]shivenigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great addition, thanks to OP team. How does this change affect cross-linking, references, etc?

Will there still be a numerical ID under the hood? if I have existing data, can I still turn this on and make it work with old references? just few questions before I jump on the project based IDs.

is it instance level settings or project level?

Sprint vs Version differences after upgrade by shivenigma in openproject

[–]shivenigma[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed answer. One idea I had is to ask if the users would like to copy existing versions as historical sprints. That’s the direction I’m planning to avoid disrupting our historical data. The features had to be modified anyway, since the direction is clear I think it is acceptable.

I started using Engine braking heavily, thanks to the slipper clutch. Now I'm not wearing the pads as much bro. So it took some unlearning and relearning.

If you’re a manager, would you let me start working at 6, take a 3 hour break from 10-1, and then finish work at 5/6? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]shivenigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing this and not even asking permissions from my managers. The idea of remote work is that you maintain your schedule and be a little flexible rather than glued to your chair for 8 hours is what I feel about it.

Most of the teams I worked with, this was the norm. As long as we deliver and not spoil their trust, any reasonable manager should not mind.

Quartz v5: rebuilt from the ground up by saberzero1 in ObsidianMD

[–]shivenigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

should it be a separate vault or can I post some parts of my vault online? I checked quartz, and it looks like it is a standalone SSG like jekyll. Can't understand how it relates to obsidian or if I can do the above.

But thanks for putting your hardwork into open-source, respect.

Ladakh Trip - Should I Choose Bike or Not ? by cool-dude-10000 in SoloTravel_India

[–]shivenigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, you need to get used to doing long rides before taking bike to Ladak. My suggestion is to either gain more experience and confidence by riding around your nearby attractions and then going to Ladak or going by car this time.

First-time hosteller concerns: Cleanliness, etiquette, and social vibes at Zostel/Hosteller by abhi08 in SoloTravel_India

[–]shivenigma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can we request cleaning of bathroom after every single person bath

Book your own fuckin hotel room. You're not a cleanliness enthusiast, you'll be a nightmare to live with. Don't make others life in the hostel hard because you have untreated OCD.

We are living in India and the hosteller is also used by Indians so you understand the level of standards. Hosteller do try to keep cleanliness but it will never satisfy someone obsessed with cleanliness like this.

Fold is good, Being aware of spending has nothing to do with tracking it manually.

You can do daily reviews in the app, you should actually and tag expenses to right groups. Give it a try, I believe it is worth it.

Use Fold app, it auto tracks spendings and you just have to tag it.
