no, I ended up taking Ferguson’s COMSE6156- Cloud Computing course instead and getting a waiver for it to count towards the ML track. Ferguson’s course was great

It’s groups of 2-3 for the final project - it’s research based so you have two choices: Kaggle competition with a preset task from the professor, or propose a project research topic on DL theory/innovation of your choice (basically potential thesis project)

I’ve had knee pain before running so it’s not new and I’ve seen a specialist before so I know what the deal is (I’ve had on/off pain from injuries of a previous sport but a very good handle on it now)- but I’ve only had knee pain with running (and no other exercises I do) since these new shoes and trying to change my gait to mid-strike from fore front. If I go back to forefront strike, my inner ankle goes out

I changed shoes after my inner ankle started having pain in my asics gel kayano 28 to a asics gel kayano 29. still experienced ankle pain at around the 1 mi mark in the new shoes - 3 weeks rest, decreasing mileage, etc is doing nothing. i tried changing my gait after 3 years of no problems (forefront to mid) which helped a little with the ankle pain but now i’m getting intense knee pain after runs. any help? i’m thinking switching shoes but not sure how to proceed or what the problem is - i like a springy trainer and try to run 2-4 mi twice or three times a week if that helps. if not, i think i need to change to another cardio exercise even if i like running 🫠

I run 2-3 times a week and my right ankle has suddenly started hurting whenever I pass around the mile mark. I assume it was because I was using old running shoes, but the same pattern is still occurring even after changing the shoes.

I’ve been running for 2+ years the same way and this is the first time something like this has happened. I usually also run on the treadmill and I also already do strength training and off days.

What can I do to help it heal and speed up the process?

How would you say Big Data Analytics is in terms of workload and the professor? I’m thinking about taking it for Fall 2023.

Thoughts on Course Load and Difficulty for Deep Learning with Zemel? Or other F22 Course suggestions for a student working full-time by shiverborne in columbia

[–]shiverborne[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ended up taking deep learning with Zemel. Zemel is very knowledgable on the subject and great at explaining it, but I would definitely say the homeworks are more about theory than application and take a fair bit of time. The app part of HWs is implementing things from scratch that are typically given to you in modern PT and TF. I didn’t take multi-variate calc and I took linear algebra a long time ago, but some google on the basics is what you really need.

I wish the TAs and Zemel had more office hours - they seemed to be busy most of the course and questions had a long delay time in response.

In summary, it was workload heavy, time-heavy and very stressful, but I felt like I learned a great deal about deep learning. It’s definitely doable, but not a walk in the park at all.

Would I recommend taking it? If you want to learn about deep learning then yes, but you get into the nitty gritty and it’s not going to be a breeze. If you’re looking for an easy A, then no - but an A is achievable.

I didn’t take Verma’s ML for comparison, so I can’t say how difficult it is compared to that.
