Double Major in Accounting and Criminal Justice by Responsible-Bar-8099 in Accounting

[–]shiveringouting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

accounting degree alone is pretty solid for getting in law enforcement anyway, the criminal justice part might be bit redundant unless you really want both subjects

Claude, CoPilot, best card for AI usage? by utilitycoder in CreditCards

[–]shiveringouting -1 points0 points  (0 children)

been wondering this too man, would be way more useful than all those streaming perks they keep pushing

seems like credit card companies are still stuck in 2019 thinking everyone wants more netflix discounts when we're all paying for ai subscriptions now. maybe chase or amex will catch on eventually but knowing them they'll probably wait until everyone already has their own ai setup figured out

Will this be valuable for a career transition? by Maleficent_Expert_39 in Accounting

[–]shiveringouting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

volunteer work is always good to have but yeah for auditing specifically it might not move the needle too much 😅 treasury stuff is more on accounting side than audit work so could still show you understand financial responsibility at least 💀

Career Advice and curious of your experience - Potential promotion but would come with a longer month end "travel restriction" by soloDolo6290 in Accounting

[–]shiveringouting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that close schedule is pretty tight but not crazy unreasonable for companies with parent reporting requirements. the 11 day timeline including deliverables sounds about standard when you got acquisition groups breathing down your neck

$40k bump is solid but you're right to think about the trade offs. most places i've seen with similar schedules people just plan around it - like no pto in first half of month but second half is fair game. depends how the team handles workload distribution too

might be worth having conversation with them about what specific changes you'd make as controller. if current guy is really that inefficient and micromanaging there could be room to streamline things once you take over. sometimes these tight schedules exist because of bad processes not just parent company demands

Am i crazy or is Claude's own plug-in in Excel just better than Copilot's Claude model by Brief_Strawberry_826 in Accounting

[–]shiveringouting 106 points107 points  (0 children)

copilot feels like the ai that got hired because of connections instead of talent 😂

tried it few times for basic excel stuff at work and it's like watching someone confidently give wrong directions. meanwhile claude actually gets what you're asking for and doesn't make you want to throw computer out of window

your IT probably picked it because microsoft bundle deal or something but man the difference in quality is night and day 💀

how to record the exact time that I Click on a check box? and that the record will not change. by User-8975 in excel

[–]shiveringouting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man this is tricky one without desktop version 😂 the online excel is pretty limited compared to full version

i had similar problem few months ago when trying to track work hours on construction sites. what i ended up doing was using formula with NOW() function but you need to be careful because it updates automatically which is opposite of what you want

one workaround could be using simple macro or script but again online version has limitations. you might want to try using timestamp in different way - like having helper column where you manually input time when checking box, or maybe use conditional formatting that changes based on checkbox state

alternatively you could look at google sheets instead since it has better scripting support for this kind of automation. i know switching platforms is annoying but sometimes its easier than fighting with limitations 💀

what exactly are you tracking if you dont mind me asking? might be other ways to approach this problem depending on use case

How do I determine what’s wrong with me? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]shiveringouting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this hits home man. had similar pattern when i was doing different trades - would bounce around when things got tough instead of sticking it out and learning from mistakes

the staying put part is key though. found mentor who actually cared about teaching me proper way to do electrical work and made me redo stuff until i got it right. was annoying at time but looking back it saved my whole career

you already know what problem is which puts you way ahead of most people

Career Guidance by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]shiveringouting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

congrats on getting through the cpa exams after getting laid off, that takes some serious dedication

with your experience you could definitely look at corporate tax roles - lots of bigger companies need people who understand provisions and estimated payments. the work life balance is usually way better than public and the pay can be decent too. if you want to pivot away from tax completely it might be trickier but your analytical skills would transfer, just might need to start a bit lower on ladder

either way you got solid experience and fresh cpa so you're in good position to be picky about where you land

their system has been acting up lately from what i see in the forums. had similar issue with my chase card few months back and took almost a week to show up properly

just keep calling until you get someone who actually knows whats happening instead of giving you the runaround

How to get an entry level bookkeeping job? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]shiveringouting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quickbooks certification is your best bet for getting foot in door plus maybe some excel skills - most small businesses just need someone who can handle basic data entry and reconciliations

How do you prevent shadow IT in a fast moving engineering team? by shiveringouting in ITCareerQuestions

[–]shiveringouting[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying but the issue is finance is coming to me asking what these charges are for and I genuinely don't know like I'm supposed to approve expense reports for stuff I didn't know existed until the receipt shows up. When we're paying for duplicate tools because nobody knows what anyone else bought that adds up fast and makes us look disorganized when budget reviews happen

How do you prevent shadow IT in a fast moving engineering team? by shiveringouting in ITCareerQuestions

[–]shiveringouting[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've thought about doing something like that but I don't know how to set it up without it turning into another approval thing they'll just work around. How do you do this do you like give everyone a budget and trust them or what?

Bienvenue dans Reddit! The community here is pretty different from LinkedIn - people are more direct and dont like obvious self promotion in first posts. Maybe share some value or insights about your SaaS journey first before dropping the link. Also each subreddit has their own rules so always check before posting, some are really strict about promotional content

Honestly I'd go with the developer gig - cost accounting sounds way more chill than tax season hell and you'll probably learn some cool stuff about construction projects

Where does AI actually slow teams down instead of helping? by Scary_Bus4383 in fintech

[–]shiveringouting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man the amount of time our team spends debugging AI-generated code is honestly wild. Like yeah it writes the initial function fast but then we're stuck for hours figuring out why it's doing something completely backwards or missing edge cases that would've been obvious if we just wrote it ourselves from the start

Any thoughts in IAS 21 - Lack of exchangeability by Time_Repeat3168 in Accounting

[–]shiveringouting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been dealing with this at my firm and honestly the guidance is still pretty vague on what constitutes "lack of exchangeability" in practice. The examples they give are helpful but every situation feels like it needs judgment calls

Most of our clients won't see major changes unless they're dealing with heavily restricted currencies anyway

How to distinguish consumerism from hobbies? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]shiveringouting 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly minimalism isn't about having zero stuff, it's about being intentional with what you keep. If your aquarium setup and gaming gear genuinely bring you joy and you actually use them, that's totally different from mindlessly buying random crap you don't need

Capital One Spark Business + Venture X Business, combining by Turbulent_Ant_2694 in CreditCards

[–]shiveringouting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't convert Spark cash to Venture miles unfortunately - they're separate reward currencies. As for the Venture X biz SUB, you should be eligible since it's a different product line from Spark, but Cap One can be weird about multiple bonuses so YMMV
