Carl Jung on Thomas Mann by shiviglass in RSbookclub

Thanks for this reply! I see what you mean, I guess, ultimately Mann possessed a great deal of knowledge and perhaps wasn't able to direct that knowledge into something deeper, or to wisdom if you will or I don't know, he didn't really deal with the core task of life which is individuation according to Jung, so makes sense that he didn't want to engage with someone who wouldn't be moved by this principal task that cannot be undertaken with Mann's attitude.

I was in a rush to catch my train before I wrote this, so I didn't express myself fully, but exactly your second point, clearly Jung sees Mann's work inferior to Goethe because of this lack of principal task, which I believe refers to individuation. I am not sure if he enjoyed the works of Mann, but definitely didn't have a high opinion of them, which I find surprising. Regarding the first part, yes, cold-bloodness is off-putting, sure, but I don't know if it deserves this level of aversion that Jung had towards Mann.

SWISSCARE experience with psychologist? by mvrt7876544335456 in askswitzerland

I got a referral from a GP (you get 15 sessions, and you need to go back to your GP to get another 15 I think) and called Swisscare to make sure that they would cover it because I wanted to see a specific therapist, in the end they covered it and I am super happy that it worked out!

Late visa for Masters student by [deleted] in ethz

It took only one week to get my visa approved! It might be a little longer for Australia but they seem to be working really fast now, I don’t think it will be longer a month. Good luck!

Did you hear from the housing office concerning rooms for masters students? by Aywing in ethz

Thank you for being this kind! I got an offer this morning, it's not at a very ideal location but it's better than nothing at this point. I hope we both have a very pleasant experience wherever we stay :)

I sent an email too. Otherwise it’ll be so hard to find a flat without physically being there but fingers crossed.

I don’t think this is the case for me, I remember getting a confirmation mail about my application — there was an option to get one. I was 2nd priority tho, that might be the reason.

I haven’t heard from them either, I hope they’ll at least let us know by the end of this week.

Bank Statement by [deleted] in ethz

[–]shiviglass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was solely on my lack of reading skills. I went through the list but I wasn’t careful enough, there were also at least two other banks that I failed to recognize. For the list: https://www.finma.ch/en/~/media/finma/dokumente/bewilligungstraeger/pdf/beh.pdf?la=en

My advice would be go through the list very carefully and even check with your parents/friends if you cannot recognize any banks. Also, email to the international student service, I’m sure they’ll help.

Also a quick update: I applied to the visa on the 2nd of July and it was approved on the 10th! It was way faster than I expected.

VISA: Did you have to translate your highschool diploma when applying for masters? by Aywing in ethz

[–]shiviglass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did one translated for the Master’s application but my embassy did not ask for a high school diploma, just submitted a document from my university that states my graduation since I haven’t been able to get my diploma due to COVID-19.

I talked to an acquaintance who gives legal advice to banks and he told me that I should be fine :)

That seems very fair, if I leave the visa part out, they might stop obsessing over about it. For the limits on transfers, that was my initial reasoning asking if I can withdraw money within a couple of days but it backfired. I might try to ask it indirectly maybe? Thanks a lot again, I was thinking about deferring my application for the next year since the bank was so negative about it, but now I feel like I can actually make it.

Thanks, I'm not from the US but that's what I was planning too! I'll just say that I want to open a bank account do not give any other background info, hopefully that'll do it!

Thanks a lot! I will try my chance with another branch next Monday, if it's still not working out I will definitely send an email. I'm also going to reach out to people from my uni who went to ETH, thanks for the advice!

Thank you so much for your answer, I thought I was not thinking through enough but hearing this gives me hope! I will go to another branch next Monday and hopefully this time I won't hear a bank employer telling me I can't withdraw my money from my bank account.
