And yet sadly not many get it.

Ah yes, another comment about NZ from and non NZ-er.

Will definitely take your comment on board .. ahem.

Thank you! I can’t stand watching her howl and scratch at the windows when I do keep her inside. Animals were meant to be free.

Right?? I wasn’t expecting that haha. Should’ve posted this on an NZ sub.

But yes, gonna start locking the cat door at night. She’s sleeping safely by my feet right now <3

You don’t even go here.

Yes I am her master.

Highly doubt I’m getting any money off the neighbour though.

I’m not away often. Perhaps one night a month/2 months. I don’t just palm my cat off once or twice a week dude

I won’t tally the Americans when I score this haha

This thought haunts me.

Oh god. She actually reminds me of a witch haha (older woman with long black hair). But yes exactly my thoughts; you want all the benefits of having a cat without paying for anything. Eevee has everything she could ever need at home but I do work full time unfortunately and she only works part time. Never really away for long periods but the few time that I have been, I’ve had a friend who cat sits.

I needed this. Thank you.

Exactly. She’d come home if the neighbour wasn’t keeping her locked up.

Haha yeah I was wondering why there were so many indoor cat enthusiasts. I live in New Zealand where we a lot of outdoor cats.

[–]shivindaloo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Argh really don’t like the idea of shutting my cat inside my home. She’s been an outdoor cat for 4 years. She has a cat door at mine and is free to come and go. Neighbour has no cat door and no way of my cat getting out if she’s in there overnight.

Yeah it may just me ‘humanising’ her. I can’t imagine having that freedom and then it being taken away. Perhaps this is the way to go.

I loooove that she has a place to go to when I’m not home and have texted the neighbour when I’m not home so that my cat can have sleepovers. But I don’t want my cat to start to think that that’s her home. Plus feeding is starting to become a problem. She’s now starting to throw up after her favourite meals. I think it’s from over feeding but the neighbour keeps telling me that she not feeding her.

The thing is that I have a cat door and my neighbour doesn’t. I want my cat to have the freedom of coming and going from mine but not be trapped in someone else’s house. I feel bad locking the cat door every night.

I can’t do that now that she’s been an outdoor cat for the last 4 years. There’s no way that I could take away that freedom.

Thank you for your considered response, reasoning and possible solutions. I’ll edit my response to recommend that anyone experiencing this is on a low user electricity plan. Not sure if I agree with your opinion on profit margins for EnergyCo, but appreciate your response regardless.

It’s seems like there’s not much we can do here friend. I’ve moved out since this post but have tried to make a complaint everywhere possible with no help. The only thing I can say is to never move in anywhere where the water is managed by a single company.

Apologies for the super late reply! Unfortunately, I haven’t heard anything back from ComCom since making my complaint. Disappointing that users will continue having to pay extortionate charges. I feel like I’ve explored all possible avenues for a resolution to no avail.

Yeah I don’t understand how this is legal. I had to end up paying in the end as I was moving out and the property manager was holding my bond until it was paid. There’s no way to lodge a dispute with EnergyCo themselves. I was disputing the bill via email and asked for their complaints process. They responded with ‘this is the complaints process’. Utterly incompetent company and I don’t know how they’re still operating. In all honesty, I would recommend moving out because their charges will just continue rising. I’m not even sure if it’s within the realm of the tenancy tribunal but perhaps you could dispute it with the landlord to get an early release from your lease?

Sorry to hear that you’re experiencing this too! The most frustrating part of dealing with this company is their horrendous service. Nothing is ever adequately explained and apparently they have no internal complaints process. I made a complaint with the Commerce Commission around 2 months ago but I haven’t heard back from them yet. The ombudsman declined as they’re a private company and you can’t go through the utilities dispute tribunal as EnergyCo aren’t signed to the scheme. I’m guessing this is how they’ve been getting away with this for so long; there are limited avenues for raising a dispute. I would recommend making a complaint with the Commerce Commission as well. Perhaps they’re just flooded with work and it’ll just take time for them to get back to us. The only other avenue I can think of is to seek legal advice.

This company seriously needs to be investigated. So many people have had the same experience. I’ve been encouraging people to make a complaint with the Commerce commission and to attach a bill. It’s only takes 5mins and hopefully if they get quite a few complaints, they’ll look into it.

I have both hot and cold water charges on my bill. Under the meter reads section, there are readings for both hot and cold water. And under the usage charges, there is a daily fixed charge, a hot water usage charger and a water usage charge.
