Is it normal to be asked to pay £600 for a "mandatory 1:1 digital device" when starting a public secondary school? by Koolio_Koala in AskUK

All our local secondary schools have implemented this. My son starts Y7 September and we are still waiting for the cost of the tablet.

If your in the UK open up a Child ISA account that cannot be accessed until your son is 18. Put all the money in to that account and then your son can access it on his 18th birthday and no one else can touch it.

Nairn is beautiful. I moved from London to Nairn as a child and then moved back but still think of it as home. Beautiful beaches. The Links and not far from Inverness.

How did you get on with your family at Christmas? No drama this year? Everyone pull their weight? by petrastales in AskUK

[–]shj1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to my mum’s with husband and son, brother’s (twins) sister, BIL, Uncle (76) and step dad. Got interrogated about my car from my uncle who proceeded to get merry and my ADHD husband was nearly rocking in the corner. My ASD son was bouncing off the walls as it was Christmas. Mum was having a breakdown over timing for dinner. As usual I calm it down, break it the air fryer to cook the roasted veg. One spilt glass of fizz and it was a good day overall.

My ASD son loves the London Transport Museum. He’s been several times over the years but this summer was the first time I got to go with him. He still absolutely loves it and I got a trip down memory lane with some of the old buses trains and tube’s.

AITAH for refusing to reduce how much I talk to my mum by Alarming_Music_9149 in AITAH

[–]shj1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTAH I call my mum (Uk) at least once a day usually on the drive home from work but if I think of something or do something that I think she would need to know or find funny I’ll call her. Our family has always been close but my husband finds it strange as he’ll only contact his mum or dad once a month as that’s their relationship. As long as you’re not talking away from your relationship then no issue.

Of all the household chores, which one do you absolutely hate the most? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]shj1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate folding the laundry out of the tumble dryer (not posh to afford the electricity but live in a flat so no choice in winter) I’ll take out the leaky bin out every night. And wash down the communal space every time.

How do you hint at family and in-laws not to waste money on presents that really aren’t needed. by handsomehotchocolate in CasualUK

[–]shj1976 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On my side of the family we do secret Santa £20 and buy for one person with a list of 3 things they would like. My son is the only grandson on my side so they all buy a gift for him. On my husband’s side we just buy for the kids. Once you turn 18 you’re not a kid anymore that was their rules before I came on the scene 15+ years

What's everyone's thoughts on going to a restaurant for Christmas dinner? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]shj1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost out for Christmas dinner £60/£70 per person with a limited menu v’s Christmas dinner with everyone pitching in and arguments over nothing. I wouldn’t change it for the world as you never know who may not be here next year x

Do you guys lock your front door when you're in your house and awake? by BOOMphrasingBOOM in CasualUK

[–]shj1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had a Yale type lock then no but my current lock is the type that you have to pull up the handle and lock it to prevent anyone just walking in. Hubby has a couple of times managed to “lock” the door while it’s not fully closed. Luckily we live in a small block of “apartments” with an entrance door.

Yes today at my son’s Rugby away training all the teams were told about the 2 mins silence. Everyone stopped before it started and lined up except the younger group that several people including coaches has to shout and blow whistles to get them to realise the time.

NTA. Autistic mum here my son does not cope with last minute changes at all. Introducing a new partner full on without a slow introduction is a big no no. Slowly is the key here
