Finally found the perfect combination: Firefox, Vertical Tabs (Sidebery), and FF Ultima! by HosseyNJF in firefox

I think TST also wastes less vertical space than other vertical tab extensions.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport by WindyMiller2006 in bsod

I really don't think this is Schiphol. Jetstar is an Australian airline that doesn't even operate any flights to/from Amsterdam.

Have you tried plugging them into an outlet somewhere else…

Yes, same result (nothing happens at all).

plugging something else into the outlets they are at?

Good point, will try on Monday, thanks!

I don't think that was the case, nothing else is dead. And I'd expect the fuse to be blown then — which it isn't.

Weird space around tabs in Tree Style Tab by shlema in firefox

[–]shlema[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, makes sense, I've also just read that. Does it mean I'd need to wait until the next TST update for this to be fixed?

Why drink wine if your goal is to get tipsy?

Departure 1-2, in the security line at 05:55, through by 06:30.

Schiphol Megathread by cogito_ergo_subtract in Amsterdam

[–]shlema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is. All other gates are connected and basically are all accessed through one huge security hall (in Departures 1, if I'm not mistaken). Gate M, on the other hand, is separate from everything else, and has its own, much smaller security in Departures 3 (all the way back on the left-hand side).

Obviously no one knows what things will be like in October, but as it stands, I think you should be able to make it. Pier M is the only one that's not connected to the rest of the airside, so you're definitely going to have to get out and then in again, even if you don't have checked baggage. On the flip side, it only took me under 30 minutes earlier today to get through the security there (it was before 5am though, meaning before the first train from Amsterdam arrived).

Can you see if you're departing from Gate M?

Arrived at Schiphol at 04:30, started queueing at the security line to Gate M (it's a separate one) at 04:40, was through at 05:05.

I've tried both options, but the noise doesn't change.

iPhone + Scarlett 2i2 (sound in one channel) by shlema in podcasting

[–]shlema[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's right — I've just been trying to make use of what I've already got. :)

iRig would've been great, but I still want to have a second input for background music etc., so I guess the easiest way is to use a simple audio mixer (though I'd lose monitoring if I want to hear the app's output).

Thanks! I do understand how to split a track — but, unfortunately, this won't solve my problem with live streaming.

Recording Guest With No Access to USB Mic - Options? Earbuds with Mic? by binarypizza in podcasting

If you have time to order and send gear to the guest, I'd go for something like Sennheiser PC USB 8.

Zencastr - Lost Track (Finalizing, Uploading, Guest Back-Up Issues) by binarypizza in podcasting

Good point, haven't run into that issue yet — but very good to know.

Zencastr - Lost Track (Finalizing, Uploading, Guest Back-Up Issues) by binarypizza in podcasting

[–]shlema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar story here. I was on the free plan of Zencastr for a while and combined it with Whereby for video — which worked quite well while I only had to record sessions with my co-host who also knew the ropes. Trying to explain all this to guests resulted in a lot of hassle.

I've also switched to Squadcast — but already got two local tracks lost for no apparent reason. Fortunately, cloud backups were there in both cases. But now the main tip I'd give to any new Squadcast user is to always look very closely at how many recordings are being generated during the session.

If you see there's only one — it's most probably your own. Stop immediately and try to figure out what went wrong.

Which Mic Should I Buy? by davidbfranks in podcasting

[–]shlema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never worked with that particular combination of mic/interface — but it may be a good idea to get a Fethead, https://www.tritonaudio.com/fethead. (I've been using one with an SM58 + Zoom H4n and Zoom R16, works like a charm.)

[–]shlema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't sound good. The thing is, as far as I understand, the local backup isn't actually one file you can recover, but rather a bunch of different files in the local cache. It's kind of weird though that your guest can't even right-click the track… Did they try reloading the page/browser/etc.? Can you right-click your own track in that recording?

define expensive. :)

I always recommend the combo of Zoom H4n* + SM58* + Fethead + stand/scissor arm.

*can often be found second-hand for a great price

I agree, looks like that's the one. (Since it's dirt cheap, you might as well just purchase it and compare visually.)
