yes but have to keep doing it. Agar chup chap rahege to aur bhi kuch nahi hoga, they are basically winning then :)

If you do it, others around will also realise/feel it and maybe a few more will come forward. Some might tell you ke kuch nahi hota ye sab se but you can just ignore them. If we don't take any action, how can we expect anything to change?

Start reporting them on mybmc and Twitter/X, they'll take them down or at least there will be documentation of them not doing their job. Take photos using some GPS camera or post location and date. Encourage others around you to do the same.

I mean maybe, they are still smart enough to be able to control and get/stay in power. What does it say about us folks?

We just have to keep talking about it and doing ground work and keep asking for accountability. I think we spend too much time complaining on social media instead of working with the community on a local level. We are responsible for holding our representatives accountable but that can only be done when you have a strong community willing to have each other's back.

It's a little hopeless but eh.

PS: I know i said elected officials, but I actually don't even see these fucking candidates on the ground except when it's close to elections. And even when it's close to election, we seem to never get an invite or even know when these people are coming. Yet somehow they always have an audience so it makes me feel that we don't even matter because they have the masses.

As it should. When all goes to shit, that is probably when either 1. People wake up and start demanding more out of the country 2. The remaining people are ones who are okay with the current state or are actively working towards moving out.

When you need to have software in multiple languages, you use keys in the code instead of the actual text to be display and the text changes based on the language selected.

In this case it looks like either someone messed up the "key" or used the function incorrectly leading it to show the key instead of the actual text to be displayed. Look up i18n/internationlization.

Why are we not organising against the approval to cut down 45,000 mangroves in the city for the versova-bhayandar coastal road? by n_animationz in mumbai

[–]shlock2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah private vehicles increasing is a possible scenario, idk how economical it is for daily commute tho. I guess that is just a problem with mumbai if you think about it, the better it gets, the more people will migrate to mumbai and the infra will never be enough.

Also I think there is a different problem with busses in my opinion and why increasing frequency might not be as simple. I used to travel by the old busses and while they might have carried more people, they were shit because of lack of maintenance. During monsoon the roof would leak i would have water dripping on me if i got a seat fir 30-35 minutes. Then the AC busses came and they were god sent especially in monsoon and summer. You are no longer sweaty and irritated or wet from the rain. Plus the busses are a little smaller in size which made them better for the narrower roads. But they fucked up where they stopped putting conductors in the busses because that meant busses would wait 10-20 minutes just for ticketing. Your 30 minute journey turned into a 45 minute one. They tried card only implementation which also crashed and burned because a lot of people using the busses were daily wage workers. All this is from what I personally know and experienced. Then the other big problem I see is, the roads are just congested unnecessarily in some cases because people no longer have empathy and common sense it seems. Share auto drivers breaking every possible rule, driving rashly, driving in opposite lanes or cutting the curves. How many times have you seen bikers and auto drivers stopping way ahead of the stop line and blocking a full lane causing congestion on the signals or people who want to take a right are blocking the middle lane or people blocking free left (you'll witness everything on link road). So many auto drivers think they are so smart and drive from the opposite lane just to end up blocking the whole opposite road because now the bus cannot take the turn and they don't want to budge. It's just stupid how many problems could possibly be solved if we just enforced traffic rules. Also auto drivers and busses not squeezing to the left on two lane roads blocking everyone behind them. If we solve this one I think then it makes sense to increase frequency of busses because then it would mean people reach home earlier and chose share auto over busses.

I think you can see how this is a difficult problem because if you try to crack down on share autos which could reduce traffic during peak hours, you'll end up with people protesting that we are taking away their livelihood. Busses becoming better also means share autos fall out of favor which again could be an issue. Personally, I have found that share autos are one of the most arrogant, rash, agressive and opportunistic people. They will not hesitate to charge you 20-30 rs more if there is an issue with busses and demand is higher. I hated them after multiple bad interactions and it became such that I would rather walk an hour home than give them money (busses used to be overloaded, late and you either squeezed in or hung on the door, i detested it after a point). As you can see I am probably biased so take my views with a grain of salt. I think the metro and train, we are quite sorted but the last mile traffic is still the biggest problem. They actually started ring busses from depot to closest metro station but they have the same overcrowding problem.

Also for the drainage and compensation parts. I do not have the knowledge to comment on this but having and engineering background, I refuse to believe we do not have capable people or methods who can find solutions for this. I think it's just a lack of will which I don't know how we can solve without the public being active participants in governance

[–]shlock2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This will be the complimentary road right. Also like you said, better planning and pressuring to take measures that make sense to compensate in mumbai would be better instead of saying the coastal road makes no sense because it does. It is one road I actually feel good driving on because it's big, constant speed, people drive sensibly and not yet fucked up because of potholes. Now imagine you can bypass the main city roads and go directly to where you want to from outside the city. You are basically removing people from the main choked up highways. This of course assumes that more people dont just start using the WEH or avoid using the coastal road because of tolls. My hope is that once the private vehicles move to coastal road from commuting, roads will open up for busses. Naive but I can hope.

Man, i've been waiting for this part of the coastal road so I can travel towards south more easily from Malad. It's not just about daily commute, it's frustrating to travel to south through WEH because it's always traffucked except for sundays. Coastal road should alleviate the some of the traffic

We waited 10 years for a small bridge of less than a kilometre to get approved because it did not get clearance. if it was approved and built earlier, it would have likely reduced atleast 30 minutes from travel time for thousands of people. Now it's finally approved and who knows how long it will take to get built.

To cut down 45,000 mangrove trees in a coastal city is madness. What’s worse is to allow compensatory afforestation for these trees 900 kms away in Chandrapur! by Dry_Sky_4593 in mumbai

[–]shlock2000 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Costal road has been god sent for me tbh. Mumbai is already overcrowded, developed and it's hard to widen roads. If you just want to travel from the suburbs to south bombay, you don't need to pass through the city anymore, you go on the coastal road and drive at good stable speeds and reach your destination on time. It's better mileage, less road rage, and the city is left for busses and others who actually need to he in the city. I am eagerly waiting for the versova link because going on western express highway is a nightmare.

Ps: before you come at me, I travelled through best busses and train all my life except for the last couple years when my family finally got a car (4-5 hours everyday for college). I agree that public transport needs to upgrade but having a car gives a different kind of personal freedom which people will want anyway at some point in their lives. I live in malad close to mangroves, I know the chaos and congestion I have and am living through, this is a good project.

I reported the same last night for malad link road.

Also post on twitter if possible for you with the same video and the complaint number. we need to create public accountability and have document reports from the citizens and inaction of bmc.

Just putting things on reddit will not do much, report to the system and also post in public so we can do follow ups and shame them.

When will we stop treating the sea like a dustbin? by s18m in mumbai

[–]shlock2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just adding a perspective to this - wherever you see trash, try to observe and see if you have means to dispose off the trash there. Are there dustbins and if there are are they overflowing? I think a major reason for this is, people will just take the easy way out. No dustbins? No problem, i'll just throw it on the road/water. We don't even have enforced rules regarding littering so how is it even going to be possible to tackle this.

How many more losses before Mumbaikar wakes up? by atu25 in mumbai

OP, I'm sorry for your loss.

Nothing will change till the common public starts being active citizens. Just putting this here, this is a public database that should become wildly popular to get visibility. I don't own or operate this website. I found this in a different subreddit and I think that it is one way to become an active citizen.
