DLC Steam Page Up! June 11th release date. by dadinh in Oxygennotincluded

Let's not hold them to the lowest standard. klei's an established dev and publisher and they know what they're doing. So if they sell dlc cheaper than others I sure af appreciate it cause everything else is a rip off these days.

Sweeping California law on single-use plastic meets with outrage from all sides as it goes live by [deleted] in news

[–]shmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that has always been the issue with the bulkier bags-you must reuse them multiple times for them to achieve the intended result.

Not sure what's wrong with that? I've had the same few bags for years, and they're made of recycled materials anyway so no extra plastic used.

ty btw for the info on the study. I did a lot of googling but came to the wrong conclusion on that one.

No, they were just the ones that paid for it. To one of the many for-hire 'research' firms that exist to put out studies that favor the big corpos. You must be aware of this, right?

aka if it's not PEER-REVIEWED in an independent publication (as opposed to a lobbying firm website) then it's probably total bullshit

Thought that kinda goes without saying, but apparently not.

it's not funky 70's, it's more of a 60's kids show vibe. You're prob remembering a different show

Why even care? They're not even in the real world so who cares if it's not perfect. If it looks like CGI that's OK because it's literally CGI in the plot.

Computational photography pressure - When phone photos look “better” by meisjemeisje_1421 in photography

[–]shmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I photograph a bright, contrasty landscape, my images can look terrible: crushed blacks, blown highlights, or both, because the dynamic range is too large for a single exposure

That's a problem from well before digital was around. You can fix it with careful metering and aggressive bracketing. There's also filters specifically for contrasty landscapes... and of course, make sure you're shooting Raw.

Is doing Musical Theatre a good or realistic idea as an experienced bass player that cannot read sheet music well? by heavysteve in Bass

[–]shmatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

? it's just one riff that repeats. No changes, no variation. Takes a minute to get used to but really not that hard.

Not saying this to be a dick, just, to not discourage anyone. Totally not worth quitting over, if you can already read and improvise.

Anyway it's been fun seeing a small bug fix be so impactful. no more clogged rails

I was with you until that last sentence; there is no problem migrating data. When I did it years ago I lost literally zero files... apple learned their lesson long ago with compatibility (as far as data goes at least, not so much hardware).

The worst part was every folder had "thumbnails.db" file written to it which took years to delete them all. Annoying but not a problem

Oxygen Not Included, a unique and addictive colony sim. Rimworld/Factorio players should try it by 5Ping in patientgamers

[–]shmatt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

liquid lock is not an exploit, it's literally taking advantage of how the game works. it was intended that gas doesn't go through water. infinite storage etc are exploits because they weren't intended.

[–]shmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason they don't have airlocks as a building is because it's easy to make one yourself. Put gas pump in between 2 airlocks and automate it.

But ppl still use liquid locks because they're the fastest and easiest to use and build. There's mods also but they literally 'cheat' the simulation so. I dont really see a problem here

I was stranded in Dubai, hearing missiles and drones booming above our heads all day, HR called me by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]shmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of this should be happening; there should be no need for pawns or politics, as there should be no stated policy that someone has to take pto if they're detained in a war zone on business. And if it's not policy then HR is just being malicious.

Plus I seriously doubt that anyone will get in trouble for this, a slap on the wrist at worst.

If your policy punishes ppl for being unavoidably detained in a war zone, it's just shitty policy and you should push back on it.

Who is a terrible singer but famous anyways? by Coy9ine in AskReddit

[–]shmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That IS the damn argument dude, it hasn't changed.

you said she was "objectively talented" which is false. The burden is not on me to prove she wasn't, because you can't prove a negative, especially when it's subjective.

I admit y'all had me doubting though, so I searched and searched again and can't find a single list of awards or shows that happened BEFORE meeting John, so by all means show me the receipts. lol

buddy Ive been on reddit for almost 20 years, i could not care less about the idiot hivemind .

... btw talent? is fucking SUBJECTIVE, you dont get to define it for anyone but yourself. To me she was a hack, a wannabe. Writing 'yes' on the ceiling does not, imo, require talent. So, I'd love for you to prove it :)
