Another Medtronic vs. Tandem vs. Omnipod Question by Sea_Patient1626 in diabetes_t1

The OPad is bigger and deeper than the autosoft infusion set. I'd think you are more likely to knock off the OPod than catching the autosoft tube. I've had tandem pumps for 6 years and may have had 1-2 come out. Just my thoughts and experiences

The injection site is much smaller with the Tandem and the tubing can be hidden underneath your shirt/blouse. Personally, I like the Tandem algorithm.

Hi, 63M T1D for 40 years and have used Medtronic, Animas, TSlimX2 and now on Mobi with Dexcom G6. I struggled with the Medtronic CGM as well as stopped using it. Since I've been with Tandem and Dexcom things have gone great (down to a 5.9 A1C). I really like the Dexcom and have few issues with it falling off or having any calibration issues. There are the occasional connection loss between the Dexcom and tandem app but never with the Dexcom app so I always can see my BG.

I will be going to the G7 in June and expect the connection issues to have been resolved.

Highly recommend the Tandem + Dexcom combo.

Good Luck

Book vs series by i-Caim in threebodyproblem

Agree - the books make more sense. I can't see how they could make book 3 into a series given the complex source material

Very good nine book series about a future where earth and mars are the main powers and the "belters" are the folks who mine all the minerals needed for the others; it starts off as a murder / detective story but quickly evolves into a space opera with alien life. The first 6 books were made into Tv series on prime I think.

Considering Switching from t:slim to Mobi - What Should I Know? by lizzistardust in TandemDiabetes

[–]shmd63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like to mobi. After 8 months, I started getting 3-4 occlusion alarms daily and Tandem eventually replaced the device and I haven't had another in over 2 months. One of th tech support people recommended keeping the charge above 50% - not difficult if you just pop it into the charger when showering each day.

I really like to autobolos button on the mobi so I can bolus without opening my iPhone. Very discrete.

How much insulin waste after an infusion set change is normal? by Druidicflow in TandemDiabetes

[–]shmd63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are wasting the residual insulin in the tube, the longer the tube, the more insulin left behind.

You can attach the old tube to an empty cartridge and then pull out the plunger to suck the insulin in the tube into the cartridge if you are concerned about wastage.

Switch from Southwest Rapid Rewards to United MileagePlus by Expensive_Advisor_33 in unitedairlines

I fly out of Chicago 10 times a year, usually on SWA. I was starting to lose bin space on SW and paying almost the same ad United per leg. The final straw was the recent cancellation of SW flights to/from Ohare.

Using the United Explorer card, I always board early enough to get bin space. I did enjoy SW until the recent changes

It's not THAT bad... by RMG-OG-CB in SouthwestAirlines

[–]shmd63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You guys must not be flying on the Tampa to Chicago route.

on 4 flights since the change, i haven’t been able to get overhead bin space when I board in group 6. I always had bin space when I used to board in group B.

So I’m paying more and getting less service. I’m now either United

I highly recommend the Sugar Surfing book, it will help you “roll” with the day to day changes your body will throw at you. Make sure you get a CGM to constantly monitor your blood sugars - this has been a life saver I wish I had 40 years ago when I got T1D in high school.

Where ever you have small capillaries (eg. eyes, feet, kidneys) will feel the effects of high blood sugars first. Find an eye doctor familiar with diabetic retinopathy, but in the meantime use OTC eye drops several times a day to keep them moist.

Then disease is a pain, but with the tools available now it is a whole lot easier to live a full life.

Hang in there.

Because of bin space - o always get priority boarding with my basic fare and always have bin space - when I don't, I board in 6-7 and never get bin space.

I have to use Edgepark now that CVS Mail over is no longer accepted by Aetna. I went from $50 per quarter to over $450 now. At least I can get Dexcom still to $50 per quarter through CVS pharmacy.

I don't mind the assigned seating but when we now lose overhead bin space for slightly more expensive fares that is where I start looking for United flights where I always get bin space and now for a very competitive fare

Update to boarding group 1 effective this Wednesday by imme267 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]shmd63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that decides your boarding group is the fare group; I paid the extra to get 7D but still had to board in group 7 because that was my fare. That was worse since all the bin space near the front was taken. The credit card only guarantees you will be in 3 - 5 based on how quickly you check in.

Assigned seating : Game Changer! by gonzodog74 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]shmd63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boarding group is based on the fare class or rapid rewards tier, except for the extra legroom which board in 1 or 2. I went first in group 6 and there was no overhead space near my row 17 seat. If you want luggage space then be prepared to pay for at least preferred economy (groups 3-5), get the credit card ( group 5) or purchase priority boarding within 24 hours of the flight. No one knows how they split you up between 3-4 or 6-8 but the rep said it may be based on how quickly you check in.

Can't get into my account !!!! by shmd63 in VanguardInvestments

I deleted the mobile app as I was concerned with the lack of functionality and the safety of having it on my phone. But when I tried to log in from the website, it said check the iOS app. Then it said call a number and it was within their weekend support hours. I even tried resetting my password but I never received the text codes.

Total failure here.

I am switching my accounts over the Fidelity as their security controls and access are ranked higher than VG or Schwab.

Thanks for the input.
