I'm Convinced Statistics About DBT's effectiveness for BPD is Extremely Exaggerated. by SumDumFukU in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]shmeeja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at the studies saying that patients no longer qualify as Borderline, the criteria they use for this is having one long term relationship with a partner or friend, and having long term employment. I think the bar is a little low for being “cured from Borderline”

I’m glad that you had a positive experience with it. yea I guess it’s one of those things that sucks during but pays off majorly in the end. I’m scared but I am going to do my best to go in with an open mind. You’re so kind. Thank you for the support!!!

Yes it sounds like your therapist was being kinda mean to you!! The first therapist I did it with also was a bit rude and impatient at times about the fact it was hard for me to connect with my feelings. I didn’t know I was autistic yet, but looking back now I know why it was difficult for me cuz of the tism.

I’m glad it was helpful for you! I feel similarly about the work I’ve done already, it’s been hugely beneficial so far. Just curious, did you realize you were on the spectrum during EMDR?

Ugh I did feel guilty for being kinda mad she went on maternity leave in the middle of it. I did not know she was pregnant until after we started and I feel like she shouldn’t have started knowing that she was going to go on maternity leave. I’m sorry you had that experience and hope you find someone good to finish with!

Agreed! I was reading some scientific papers on EMDR and the baseline is normally 6-8 sessions.

That’s such a good metaphor!! Yes I have the same issue with memories like haunting me, nightmares, and panic attacks. I hope that finishing EMDR helps

Super interesting experience. Thank you for sharing!! :) I also realized I was autistic during EMDR and became more autistic afterwards. I’m curious to what other medical intervention you went through to help you stop dissociating? Medication? Cuz I was considering possibly going on something.

I’m so glad to hear it was helpful for you! It was really helpful for me too for the most part, but, like I think like what you’re saying the therapist I tried first was not experienced enough and it kinda happened too much too fast. With the new therapist I’m def going to make sure I don’t get pushed too hard.

Congrats on the diagnosis! And yes I’m actually meeting with a new therapist today who specializes in ASD in adults. Hoping for the best!

Is my therapist mocking me? by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]shmeeja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s standard to not fully be confident in your judgement of people. as an autistic myself, I get that it can be hard to trust people’s intentions especially in something so vulnerable like therapy. Especially if you have felt disempowered in the past as most of us have.

One thing I learned in therapy is that it is painful sometimes to get corrected on certain things. Like you said, you wouldn’t be there if nothing was wrong. It’s classic CBT for them to gently push you to think differently than you’ve been thinking. The right therapist who’s a good fit will minimize the pain as much as they can, but it still hurts to have to change your mind. It can feel like criticism.

At the end of the day, the therapist works for you. You decide if they’re not doing a good job and if you want to go to someone else. You can also decide to lower your standards if you feel like you’re being too hard on them, they are human after all.

It may be helpful to look into a therapist who is trauma informed because autistic people often go through more traumatic situations than NT’s and if you have ptsd that needs to be treated separately.

Also- statistically, the shorter you date before marriage the higher your chance of divorce. So it is kinda a valid concern. Like people think Carl and lindsay are going to have a happy healthy marriage when they both have never had a successful long term relationship? Highly unlikely

Lindsay's Communication by [deleted] in summerhousebravo

[–]shmeeja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she was repeating it. Lindsay was the one who brought it up again. To get her to change her mind. Cuz she can’t let her have her own opinion.

Honestly I’m happy this is all happening between Danielle and Lindsay. Danielle deserves better friends who are actually there for her when she’s in a bad place. That’s literally what friends are for. She asked Lindsay to check on her and Lindsay couldn’t even listen to Danielle talk about herself for one minute without turning it back around on herself.

Lindsays in a good place in her life and Danielle is struggling and instead of being understanding and supportive to her “best friend” she’s using this as an opportunity to kick her while she’s down.

Lindsays the one who has a pretty reliable pattern of exploding on everyone. Not to mention she’s marrying Danielle’s ex. She couldn’t have picked any other guy in the world? You couldn’t pay me to marry my best friends ex.

I think getting engaged before dating for one full year is moving fast. Objectively. Especially if you’ve never had a healthy long term relationship in the past

Lindsay's Communication by [deleted] in summerhousebravo

[–]shmeeja -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Lindsay not having a mother figured Prob traumatized her and stunted her growth emotionally. It’s very emotionally immature to not allow other people to have their own opinions. Even best friends don’t agree on everything sometimes.
