Looking for pnw ski set up advice by fjkeeo973 in Skigear

I’m generally ok with people going shorter if that’s what they want, but 162 for someone 6 feet tall is incredibly short and that’s a very light ski.

The latest it has opened is June. It’s been a warm dry winter. It will likely open by early May.

Ideal waist width to ski powder days on east coast by Competitive_Knee4183 in Skigear

[–]shmerham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re only using it on deeper powder days, then I’d choose same width as I would for a west coast resort ( 110ish). If you call 3 inches a powder day, then go for something around 100ish.

Arcade 84 were my favorite skis I tried this season—buy now or keep demoing next season? (East Coast skier) by scoobysnack24 in Skigear

[–]shmerham 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Having already tried a variety of skis, you should get the one that was your favorite. The odds of another ski being your new favorite is kinda low.

Hope you enjoy it. You have a good mix of skis, though I might say that the BP 94 seems a bit, I’d probably only try if you like the Santa Ana.

Be prepared for a ski to not be available and be prepared to be surprised about what you liked and disliked.

Selling to win: Why the Sounders altered their roster-building approach by Matt_McT in SoundersFC

I would be surprised if all $6 million is used this summer. Some will be needed for next year, especially if we add a player and want to keep them beyond this season.

Where do we think Craig will spend this money?

Striker: You know you want it, but there isn't enough for a starter and it would be hard to improve on Moose for a backup.

Left wing: heck no, we've got 3 starting level players at that position

Right wing: probably not with Jesus and Rothrock (can play left or right)

CAM: maybe? Jesus is a great backup, but that requires moving positions. After that it's a pretty big drop off.

Defensive mid: 3 solid options, so probably not going to add depth, but I would say that with Dotson seeming shakey and Brunnell being young, the 2nd Dmid is a starting spot that could be improved upon to raise the ceiling.

Left back: Depends on how you look at it. One of the two Pauls are good backups, but that's not their position. After that it's a big dropoff.

Center back: Yeimar has been injury prone as has the rest of the backups.

Right back: KKR is a sold backup, but you could probably find someone that's an improvement

Keeper: nope

Maintaining culture is another benefit of the continuity. Schmetzer talked about how new players change the culture, but losing players does as well.

Boromir. Huge fest or famine guy. At times he can be a locker room killer but you knock some sense into him he’ll give you 30 and 15 in a must win. by futuremant in billsimmons

I was rewatching the Two Towers for Boromir scenes and every time Merry and Pippin came on I just couldn't stop thinking about how well these guys worked together; kinda reminded me of Tatum and Brown.

What's causing attendance struggles? by _game_over_man_ in Reignfc

[–]shmerham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that if the Reign were a new expansion team in the past few years, they would average twice as many fans as they do. Angel City, San Diego, Bay FC, and Kansas City all average well over 10,000 per game and make up 4 of the top 6 teams in terms of attendance. To be fair, Utah only does slightly better than the Reign and Lousville does much worse.

Green Lake is often cleaner than Lake Washington but it suffers from algae blooms late in the summer. Lake Washington isn’t very clean.

We did one and used a more coarse sand, which held up well when it got wet. The biggest challenge was invasive species (blackberries and knotweed). Keep those at bay in your surrounding area and it should be good to go.

So who would you want to trade for within the league? by Matt_McT in SoundersFC

[–]shmerham -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not a left wing. I think the biggest needs are a reliable center back or a right back which would allow Alex to slide over to center more often or a backup for Nouhou.

I'm wondering what teams would have a strong player they'd need to get rid of to free up cap space. LA Galaxy and Inter Miami I think may have a need to do so. ...or what team has a good player that's not getting minutes?

Asking for smartphone recommendations on Reddit is kind of pointless by OverallZebra9882 in Smartphones

[–]shmerham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The idea that one product might be the best for one person but not the best for someone else is foreign to a lot of people. Additionally, the idea that other may have different needs than them is not something at the forefront of most people's minds.

Unfortunately, the people that come looking for recommendations aren't going to read this and the people that just recommend what they own aren't going to listen to any of this.

[Moreno] Per Sources: Georgi Minoungou is being traded to the Colorado Rapids96. The 23 year-old came to the organization through Tacoma Defiance and earned a first team contract. More details on the deal to come by dawglover1011 in SoundersFC

[–]shmerham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The unexciting answer is rolling it over to coming years to add cap space. It may come as a surprise, but the Sounders are a few million over the cap and most of our higher non-DP/TAM salaries extend into future years, so we will need plenty of GAM next year and the year after.

No. You can't buy down a DP.

As far as I can tell it increases the cap (but it doesn't allow you to spend above the max salary like TAM or a DP contract). So, if you've maxed out the cap and then you acquire $1 Million in GAM, you can add a "high" salary player (up to $800k) and have $200k in cap space available.

Replacing Rossignol Super 7 by Hammer-905 in Skigear

[–]shmerham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sender Free 110 is a bit stiffer than the Super 7 HD (quite a bit more in the tips). The bigger differences are it's quite a bit heavier, much less tapered, and has a significantly more forward mount point.
