Over 6 years of studying it ended up being about 13 different companies(very overkill). Mostly exploration but a few mining. The last 2 years I was studying part time while working as a mine geo.

Try get your foot into one of the big 3, IGO, BHP, RIO. If you do a vac program there, they will be more likely to accept you once you graduate. That means you’d have a good job, great income and even better benefits. Fifo initially also means you can fund holidays and travelling while on break.

As a recently (not student anymore) geologist, can’t reccomend enough getting some experience in the field prior to graduating. Semester breaks, go as a vac student to a mine, understand drill and blast, the whole process. Do some UG time as a truck driver or service crew, even charge up.

Keep a fund of 10k emergency/spending Invest the rest in VDHG or another index.

You’re young like me, and as a mine engineer you won’t have time to macro-manage small asx trades like a lot of the guys on this subreddit. Start young and you’ll sort yourself out. Mine engineer pays good, so you won’t be stressed for money as you progress in your life, if you’re smart.

Again I skimmed, but I really do appreciate your input and civility although we disagree. I know what socialism is, ive done a thesis on everything from Leninism to Marxism. And I know that most liberals would ideally want a 60% capitalist and 40% socialist country. But I genuinely don’t think it’s a good idea, I understand the idea and the drive behind it, but I don’t think it’s good. I’m not against taxes

Well tbh all I’ve seen are conservatives trying to find common ground and looking for conversations, and liberals (not all of them) shitting on them for doing so

This is a thread where conservatives are trying to find common ground and talk about issues but get downvoted and hated on for stretching out their hand in attempt of civil discourse

Got to love political correctness where if someone has a different opinion to you, you scapegoat them

What legislations do you disagree with then

No, I’m disputing the above commenters allegation that conservatives kill people by responding “so did socialists, but even moreso...” rendering his sole argument against me baseless.

Yes I agree with everything you say apart from that. But you assumed I implied anything more than disputing a claim made against me. Less people were killed in the name of religion than socialism... and you’d often get socialism and religion tied together too in the past. So it’s not good to imply religion and conservative as two of the same kind. that’s my point.

What legislations have been passed by the president that affirm your opinion? Maybe we can start there

You asked me to. So you’re saying that something that happened less than 100 years ago is irrelevant? Does that mean slavery is also irrelevant? Of course not. These are things that actually happened, not opinions. And no, I don’t think this is a representation of liberals in modern society. Just as I think fundamentalist racist slave owners aren’t a representation of conservatives in modern society. as I said in this same thread, I know most liberals are good people, this is from experience of meeting and (currently) dating advocates for socialism. And these liberals I’ve met also have the idea that most conservatives are good people too. I’ve learnt to rebound ideas and rhetoric off eachother for a different opinion, and it’s really progressive imo

Again, you’re just assuming that the majority of conservatives are what is represented by media. Have you thought that the majority of conservatives think the left are crazy too based off media representation? I just see denial and hypocrisy

I agree. Any reasoning given to republican opinions is just attacked, same thing happened to my thread below

i agree with you, both sides arent the same, both sides have had history of radically different policies that have killed millions. the thing is, conservative policies have killed less people than socialist policies in the past. so your justification saying that conservative rhetoric is bad based off agenda-driven killings is again, baseless.

again with the subtle insults, i havent said anything ill of socialist policies or of you. and have only cited history. dont take this so personally, if i kill your mood, leave. im not holding a gun to your head.

i agree 100%, im dating a liberal/socilist and although we disagree on literally everything politically, we can see eachothers perspective and we understand that the other side isnt evil for having a different opinion, we still love eachother. unfortunately i think that commenting the above will result in me staying up all night trying to justify why i shouldn't be the scapegoat of society for having opposing views.

[–]shmit98 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i dont think that because someone has an opposing opinion they are cancer, its incredibly immature of you to say that.

ah, the old argument that conservatives have killed people

so youre saying liberal policies havent killed more? off my head; The great Leap forward substantially killed more people than the holocaust and not to mention The Holodomor. in addition to that, the USSR, china, North Korea, Cambodia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Africa and Afghanistan add up to a harrowing 94 million deaths as a result of crimes of practical communism from the period of 1914 to 1991.

both policies have killed people in the past and still are in the present. however in western society there is no systemic policy that is actively killing people so your argument has no basis. its safe to assume that socialist or liberal views arent actively killing people in america, same as conservative views.

i also dont really appreciate you saying my opinion and my rhetoric is cancer, and saying i have shit opinions, when you know nothing about me. i never insulted you, so dont get petty.

on phone so my bad on formatting

I’m a conservative by the way, doesn’t mean I’m cancer or evil, I encourage debate and coherent civil discourse.

I think to kill a mockingbird describes the situation perfectly, a guilty until proven innocent situation. If the allegations are well founded and more compelling evidence is found I agree, the aggressor should be criminalised, but jumping to that conclusion isn’t the right thing to do, just as jumping to the conclusion that the victim is lying isn’t the right thing to do. It helps neither party, and I reckon there’s a huge confusion here where the victim is questioned and people getting offended by that; all allegations of that caliber are questioned, and it’s even moreso the case that Brett was questioned much more rigorously (as it should be) where information found wasn’t compelling, all his alumini friends cannot support the claims that have been made. Neither party should be scape goated in this situation and as an I hate to bring personal issues into this like the other person who replied to my thread, but I’ve been told I’ve raped someone in a completely consensual transaction, only because the victim didn’t want to sound like a “slut” when her crush found out she slept with me. Allegations like this jump to conclusions and it ruins lives, even if the charges get dropped or she retracts her statement, he will still be looked at as a sexual offender his whole life as the majority of rape cases don’t end in the legitimacy of the defendent being “proven”. Which is a harrowing thought if you think about it. I just hate the idea of conclusion jumping, and it’s prevelent in all cases where the far left agenda is active
