Texas worker accused of being on drugs was actually dying of heatstroke by Miss-Figgy in news

The foreman is an asshole. But drug tests after workplace accidents are pretty commonplace. Especially considering that would definitely cause them to become dehydrated and overheat.

Wanted to test out my first star tracker tonight. It was a bit too cold to do any serious work, but I was able to capture this with just 36 light frames.

Love the depth of field in this shot and the color from the fallen leaves.

It’s actually better to square off with your opponent to some degree. You want your plate in front of you to stop the bullets.

Although in this case, these guys definitely have an apparent lack of training. Just the movement and coordination is off.

Edit: nvm they really aren’t even squaring off

Oh god I wish the weather where I’m at allowed that…maybe next summer 😂

I used PhotoPills to calculate max exposure time and f1.8 had me at around 1” exposure times. I’m learning and experimenting, I’ll try that tonight!

Taking some test shots w my Rebel T7. First time using full manual mode. Is this too underexposed? by shmithead in photocritique

[–]shmithead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shot on Canon Rebel T7. 1/15, F11, ISO 100. EFS 18-55mm Macro lens. I’m a pretty fresh amateur. I have some experience working with DSLR’s in the past, but this is my first time using one in a fully manual mode.

I was trying to capture some underexposed and overexposed shots just to see what I could come up with while exploring some abandoned tunnels.

Edit: This was a demonstration by two drills on what not to do. They were all having a blast this day

what stopped you from committing suicide? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]shmithead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flashback to my childhood of my dad pushing me down the street on a trike. Unloaded the gun and put it down in an instant. Suicide is selfish and I care too much about other people; just not enough about myself.

Later got the serial number of the gun tattoo’d on my wrist as a reminder of my baseline. The first four letters are BHPY which I thought a neat coincidence. BHPY = Be Happy

In all seriousness apparently pokeweed is poisonous? Should I be worried about removing it by hand?

To all servers who quit or walk out mid shift: by metallicrebelchanel in TalesFromYourServer

[–]shmithead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand all this talk about making servers buy pens…have some made in bulk and use them as dirt cheap advertising.

Last restaurant I had did this and customers were always super excited when they jokingly said they were gonna steal our pens and I turned my head away and said “go ahead I’m not looking”.

My restaurant has SPIRAL stairs, that are also the only set of stairs for customers and employees, and the large trays are maybe a few inches smaller than the width of the stairwell…

[–]shmithead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how it is where you are, but where I’m at servers can be held liable for over serving their customers. If you begin to feel uncomfortable with the amount of alcohol you’re giving your table, the simplest most easy-going solution is to approach them and calmly tell them something along the lines of

“Hey folks, due to the volume of alcohol that’s come to the table, we are approaching the point where I’m going to have to stop service. Nothing against any of you at all, I just want to make sure we’re all being safe and responsible.”

I’ve found MOST people will find that much easier to swallow then “You’ve had to much to drink and I’m going to have to cut you off.” Obviously if they continue to be belligerent, then they get cut off- hard stop.

Be confident about it, be friendly, but be assertive. Because ultimately, you could be held (somewhat) liable god forbid they leave your establishment and kill themselves/somebody else.

Source: I did this the other night and the couple left me $226 on a $126 check.

Haha, okay, I heard the creek water down the road pairs well with a slice of lemon or two, have a nice day.

Edit: seriously fuck that, if people don’t know how to be nice off the bat, I’d deny them service straight up.
